HID's actually run hotter, but use less wattage.... i.e. your heating up gas instead of lighting a filament.... i thought the same thing... but less power doesn't necessarily mean less heat.... halogen and High Intensity Discharge produce their light in totally different aspects..... and i have had no problems with just the "bolt in" kit.... comes with bulbs and a Ballast/igniter.... plug your factory headlight plug into the ballast.... then plug the new gasbulb into the ballast....

Well, good and bad news...the good news, the lights work great when the truck is off...unfortunately, becuase the headlights are computer driven (see information in prior post) the will only work if you wire in an addtional relay.

The relay will pull power off of the battery when the truck is running and off of the electrical system when it is not...

So, I have ordered the relay harness and it should be here in the next day or so. Other than that, they look awesome.

Quick note though, make sure and have your lights readjusted as the light pattern is a but higher with the HID's as opposed to your normal halogen bulbs.

One other quick note:

The cooler temps (i.e. 3000k ~ 5000k) provide many more lumens than the >5000k bulbs...but, if you get too cool, it is yellow and that is illegal, thus the white at about 3000k tends to provide the most useable light.

hope this helps.

Heck, I wired in a relay harness and they still flashed on me. I don't know why they are being so stubborn for me.

Yes the bulb itself is hotter, but the temperatures inside the housings are typically cooler. I tested it with my fog lamps. Put an HID in one side and a stock bulb in the other and the stock bulb by far projects much more heat out through the lens.

When you say $300 lights.... are you talking about the bulbs and such or the plastic housing.... NO WAY will you hurt the lights and kinda doubtful that you will harm the "casing" if they are Moded correctly.....

If you get the 'good' kits (Hella / Bosch) the lows will run you about $200-300 and the high/low will be in the ballpark of $500-600........... Guess it depends on your checkbook... But heck, ive kinda been reading all your post and you have some really cool mods already... if you can get the high/low......

For other people that might read this thread as well... if you get the high/low you don’t have to mess with the yearly inspection (if your state requires them)... If you get the "low" HID you will not have a ** High/low** beam any more... and here in Texas we wont pass inspection... DONT WORRY about the 'low' not being bright enough AT ALL.... It will BLOW YOUR MIND!! I’m going to save a few bucks and rig my fog lights to be my "high" beams and I will pass inspection.....

I agree as I stated before that they do run cooler inside the housing. I have read this in many other posts, and also from knowing people that have HID's on their trucks and cars. I also used to have HID's on my old truck. The only reason I have not put them on the new truck, is this issue with the factory computer. Once that is sorted out, and I know exactly what I need to do, I will put them on. I would definitely go with the Hi Low kit.

Yeah, some kits do have a capacitor or resistor built into them, you may be one of the lucky ones!
