3.73 Vs 4.10 Mpg

Hello all new to forum, posting that is been lurking for a while. Amazing how much info you can sponge up from a forum such as this! Anyways, just ordered a 3500 SRW QC AUTO w/4.10 rear end. Since it is not to late to change ratio curious as to what the fuel milage difference I should expect. Reading all the posts it seems no one is thrilled about the mpg no matter what. Would l9ke to know what I will get with this combo. I realize driving habits play a major role in mpg. I do not haul a bunch, just big mamas 11k lb. horse trailor about 5 times a month. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Most who have the G56 (early model) have mileage/ rpm's closer to 4.10 numbers.

Fishkiller,

I have the 3.73's which worked well until I put bigger tires on, now I wish I'd ordered the 4.10's. If you plan or installing a suspension system that includes larger diameter tires, I'd stick with what you ordered. If you want great mileage, go to the 3.73's and drink decafe!

I have 4.10's and just started getting 17-17.5 mpg on the interstate at 70-75 mph and only 5100 miles on the truck.

I am in the same situation. I have the 3.73's, and when I lifted the truck on 37's, my mileage dropped a few mpg. One of the next things I do is upgrade to 4.10's. Some say go with the 4.56's, but that is only good if you tow a lot. I drive a lot on the highway, and I am getting 16mpg now. It should go up when I get the 4.10's. If you are not planning on lifting the truck with big tires, or towing a lot, I would get the 3.73's.

PROFISHKILLER, are you planning on lifting the new truck? If so, you are probably going with the perfect setup. I tow sometimes, and it is killing me not having the 4.10's. That is going to be one of the next things I do.

i drive a 07.5 3500 4x4 with the 68rfe(auto) 3.73 gears and 35" pro comps. i towed a 8000lb trailer through the rockies for two weeks on vacation this summer and i never felt like i needed 4.10s. it really depend on tire size in the end. my thinking is if you have six gears u can just slip into a lower one when towing. but if your not towing and u like to cruise at 90-100 mph once in a while then u will wish u had those 3.73 gears to keep the revs down a little. most people wouldnt have 37s as the tire of choice on their tow rig. i would not be happy with the 4.10 personally because with all that tork why limit your top end speed and wast fuel

I have a G56 with 3.73's and get terrible mileage. At 70 the truck is over 2k RPM with 33" tires. Think average of 13-15 between 70 and 80 unloaded, interstate. Pulling a 28', weighing maybe 8k, enclosed I averaged 8.5 at 75.
