I have that same bad feeling that I know more about this new engine then the folks at the dealership. I had to print off the re-flash procedure from this site & show them the oil change interval in the manual... Hope they get these guys trained before we really need them...

Hey Chuck...the Dodge mech told me it was just a counter. It is impossible to find anything from my dealer. This get me worried since they were not aware of the CJ4 oil requirement for the 6.7. Good thing I have no problems.....yet !
I don't know if the 6.7 is equipped with such sensor.

Hmm.... guess that's just one more reason for me to keep my '02. A dealer that doesn't know about CJ-4 oil requirements for particulate filters is scary. Someone there has to read dealer info a little better.

I am the diesel tec at a small town dealer and have been since Dodge put the Cummins in their trucks in 89 and I know about the cj-4 oil. It's a low ash oil for the pdf. It is more expensive than the "regular" oil(mopar HD or rotella). And to my knowledge there is no sensor on the service minder. It's all in the programing of the computer. It's based on driving habits, mileage and so forth. I talked with star on this and they are studying some trucks to see if the oil really needs to be changed when the lite comes on. Most likely there will be a flash to change to parameters.

Does this mean we can,t do our own oil changes I,ve always change mine around 4000 miles . Draining oil and changing filters was always fun to do I just don,t understand resetting sensor and if you don,t you score the cylinder walls.

yes you can change your own oil BUT document and save your reciepts showing what kind of oil you use. Be sure you use the mopar hd6700 oil or some other well known brand oil that is low ash for the dpf. About the sensor, it really doesn't have a "sensor". I personally don't think it's accurate. It's all a configuration in the computer so all you have to do is reset it when it comes on. To reset it turn the key on, depress the accelerator to the floor three times within 10 seconds and then roll the key off. It may take several attempts to reset it. It is also written in your owners manual.

Personally i think the whole "Oil change required" message is a dam JOKE......Got truck when i hit 1900 miles it said change oil.....I alos noticed it was way over full at that time to....So i changed the oil and put 12qts in and it has been on the high mark until about 300 miles ago....I checked the oil and its way over full again and my "Oil Change Required" message came on again and i am only at 3200 miles....SO going by that i need to change my oil every 1300 miles.....I'm starting to think that when it reconizes that the oil is over full the Message appears.......This 6.7l is making me mad Other than the oil overfilling and the Oil message...it runs great...But if they cant figure out this oil overfilling situation, i personally dont see this being a 100,000+++ mile truck....

What's your opinion on new 6.7L?

well the 6.7 is not without it's problems, but i think it's just programing issues, as with the service minder. They will more than likely come out with a flash to fix the oil change required light problem. And as goofy as it sounds there were some trucks within certain build dates that had wrong dipsticks or something that indicated the oil overfull by a quart. Don't know what the fix for that will be but I'm just gonna keep running 12 quarts.Just mark the stick or remember where it's at when you change it.

Has anyone picked up enough miles to change the fuel filter it looks a little tough to get at I,m thinking from the bottom with the half inch drive. Just want to be ready in case of a roadside change in the middle of nowhere.

No I haven't changed one yet. I think your right it looks easier from bottom. I know that's tough when your on the side of the road, but at least the filter comes with a new canister, filter, wif sensor, and drain valve. It's all one unit. And right now they're dirt cheap! I think they're like 10 bucks! I went ahead and bought a couple before they go up!

If you change your oil before the light comes on do you have to reset the oil change light

I don't think it will let you reset it until it comes on.
