I am looking for some suggestions on the front end of my 2004 2500 Dodge
Less than 1 year ago I replaced all 4 ball joints on this truck because it was chewing tires up and the ball joints had a lot of play. I might mention that the truck only had 60k on it at that time. I started getting tire wear again and in less than 1 year I have a bad lower ball joint again. (80k miles now). I also have a front hub that bearings are out of on the other side.
I have been checking and it appears that Dodge is using the same ball joint in the 3/4 ton Diesel that they are using in the 1/2 ton gasoline trucks.
I love my Cummins diesel but I am sick of the weak front end on this truck . Does anyone know of an upgrade or after market kit I can put on this piece of junk to beef it up so I do not go broke putting ball joints and tires on it ? And how about the hubs any suggestions on them ?
I am about ready to get rid of the Dodge and get a Ford Powerstroke the way this thing is going.
HELP I DON'T WANT TO HAVE TO DRIVE A FORD AGAIN !!!
But when Bob? And I suppose they shoulda be called "exspensive mutha"?
I don't think they have finalized the price yet,but when you consider only having to do it once the price of the part will be a small part of the equation.
I was really tired of worring about will I get one more trip before the clunking comes back. The huge increase in bearing surface and the hi tech aerospace anti friction coating works for me.
Bob

I am of the opinion that Dodge should be forced to do a factory engineered upgrade on these front ends . We should not be having to spend a ton of $$$ fixing front ends on vehicles that are this new. Is there any interest in getting something underway to make this happen ? I am willing to check into what it would take if there is enough interest.
I doubt there is anything you could do, but it would be worth a look into.
I have replaced all 4 ball joints, front axle u-joints, steering stabilizer, and sway bar end links on my front end. Napa sells ball joints and front axle u-joints that are greasable, that is what I put on mine. I am hoping that if I keep them greased they will last longer.

That'd be nice but kind of a pipe dream getting chrysler to do anything. I to hope that greasable ones will last longer. That's what I'm gona probly put on mine when I hafta do them. Unless those "bad mutha's" are out. might try them if they're not TOOOO much.

I put the MOOG greasable joints in less than 1 year & 20k miles ago and they are gone already. I do know that the Feds. can force Dodge to do a recall and I think if we could get enough people pushing for it that we can make it happen. I am researching to see if we can make something happen with a petition of some kind if not that then I will find out what we need to do.
I also feel that the lift pump should be a forced recall because when you take it in under warranty they are putting a retro kit on to fix the problem. (why retro it if it ain't a problem and since it is a problem why not do a recall ? )
