run 33s or 35s

hey guys i have been putting up a few posts on here lately cause i basically want to get rid of my 8 inch rize kit and go to something smaller. for one ride quality and 2 needing to get some better mpg. i am a college student that has been very fortunate to of gotten all of this stuff done to my truck but i am about to graduate and will be on my own so getting a little bit better mpg will be great. i have been going back and forth on selling the truck and get a truck that is better with gas mileage and maybe not a diesel or just keeping it and lowering it down. i want to keep an aggressive look to it so i will be trying to get 20s and run either 33s or 35s.

so my question is what kind of gas mileage do you get with 33s or 35s? you can see what my upgrades are in my sig so any help here would be great guys. would hate to get rid of this truck so i am trying to figure out a way to keep it but just make some changes!

I don't think I'll ever understand how 20's make a truck look aggressive but to the point:

Being that you're only running 37's now I doubt you will see much MPG difference by going to 33's or 35's. The biggest factor of MPG is driving style and I can tell you that because in the last two years I've had 33's, 35's and 37's. I have probably gotten the best MPG with the 35's but that was only about 18MPG on the highway, unloaded, with a tail wind. Lowering the truck will help you some, but really anytime I can get more than 15mpg from a tank I'm happy.

*disclaimer: I have accepted the fact that no-matter what I drive I will never see the good MPG that people report of on the forums

You won't see much mpg difference at all
I ran 37s then 33s now 35s
I'm on a 6" lift goin down to a 3" carli
I just went 673 miles
And avg 19.7 on 35s driving 85-90
My Buddys stock avg that
And these are hand calucated no lie o meter
Believe it or not I have actually done many runs drivin 65-75
And 80-90 and I get better mpg goin 80-90
Then I do 65-75

If you are looking at getting a better ride and saving money then I would ditch the 20" wheel idea and stick with 17's. The wheels are cheaper, the tires are cheaper, and they ride better. Win Win Win!

My 07 5.9 Mega Auto 3.73 gears and a Smarty Jr would get around 17-18 hwy if I stayed below 75MPH. This was with a 3" Carli setup and 35's. You will pick up more hwy mileage by lowering your truck than you will by going to smaller tires. Above 60mph aerodynamics play a pretty big role in mileage. I lost about 1 mpg just by removing my front SLT valance.

Which gear ratio do you have in your axles? On our trucks, we've seen way better mileage with the 3.73 gears versus the 4.10 gears.

Quick question how do you tell what gear ratio you have?

Typically there is a tag under the hood which lists the gear ratios.

Any potential fuel savings is going to be negligible.

Even if a 1 or 2 mpg gain is documented, you'll never recoup the cost of wheels/tires.
