Got an indexing ring from TGC with my lift. It is a Skyjacker part, sadly, neither company has apparently installed or even seen one installed to date.
The instructions tell you to remove the factory seal from the TRANS, in this case, I have a G-56. 2 seconds after I pulled the seal I realized the adapter "ring" and seal they provide in the kit won't work for this application.
After several calls, unanswered messages, and run around from people who are "going to check with so & so because he knows about these things", ....
I'm at a standstill.
They only have two sizes of these extension pieces, one is right around 2.5", the other is 2.69 or so. I have the bigger of the two here, it's far too small to use where they tell you to.
Any ideas on this? I have a few pictures of where they want me to install this thing, and am 99.7% sure there is no point in using it as it will move the seal back onto the splines, vs. leaving the factory one in place.
Had to order a new (factory) seal @$38.00, still no answer from Top Guns or Skyjacker.
Another funny thing, they told me they have sold over 300 of these indexing rings and I am the first one to have a problem. Wonder if it's possible that I am the FIRST guy to install it on a manual?
Top Gun is about useless when it comes to customer service. 15 minutes on hold isn't out of the ordinary at all before you get to speak with someone. Then, that person has to pass you to someone else who still has never seen or installed this part. The RING itself it all bolted up, no problems there, it's a small aluminum sleeve they provide and seal that is in question.
I already ordered and received a new FACTORY seal to replace the one the instructions told me to remove. Add another $48.00 to the issue at this point.
Not that it's of much help to you now...that's why I got my Indexing Ring from 8Lug Truck Gear (SkydRam) because his kit comes with a new seal and both adapters so I didn't have to worry about getting the wrong one. Hopefully this may save someone else the headache you're having.

Auto or manual?
This is where I think the instructions (from TGC) are lacking, if I actually USED the seal adapter and new seal on my application the seal would be out so far it would be riding on splines.
Since this "extension" section of the G-56 is dry (no fluid in there, seals on BOTH sides) there is no need to extend the seal outward.
Mine is an auto...you'd have to check with George (SkydRam)...he's on here quite often and is a great guy with a wealth of knowledge...he can advise you much better than I can.

On a G56 you don't use the extensions or mess with the seal.
What a learning experience this has been! I could have had this indexing ring installed in literally 40 minutes flat with the help of my buddy on Sunday. Instead, we stood there scratching our heads for over an an our. Then, I spent (no BS) over two total hours on the phone to Top Guns and Sky Jacker.
Worst part of the whole ordeal is that I repeatedly asked them, "All I need someone to do is confirm that this part is not required in the G-56"
Not one single person out of the bunch would admit it.
Cost me $44 bucks and all week without the truck, not to mention TGC willingly selling me a $70.00 part (extension and seal) that is not required on my truck.
Time for them to amend the instructions in these kits, it has NO mention of this part only being used in the auto.
