I am starting this thread to track and document the testing of a dummy key fob for our trucks.
This is a spin-off from this thread, asking about a simpler way to leave the truck running while still having access to your keyless entry capabilities.
Personally I find the integrated vehicle key/keyless remote to be a headache, and apparently I'm not the only one. So I built a gadget.
I'll come back and edit this initial post with more info, but for now I wanted to get the thread open and let the discussions begin and continue.
I have a group of beta testers to whom I will be sending my initial (still somewhat crude) key plug to see how it works out for them and to hopefully help document the pitfalls and advantages of using this thing.
My goal for today is to gather everyone's contact information (offline) and prepare the key blanks to send out on Tuesday (Monday is a USPS holiday).
Instructions and information about how it works are at post #12.
So here's to innovation and doing interesting things just because we can!
