PS Whine

Hey All,
Since day-1, I've had a bit of a PS pump whine (not really a whine, but a very noticeable PS pump noise) when going down straight down the road when ever so slightly correcting to the right (not unlike the sound of a PS pump when trying to turn the wheel on hot, drive pavement when standing still, or when reaching full lock). Just me or common or?? Taking it in tomorrow to have it checked out, but still wondering. Me thinks it's a bum pump. Thanks.

Without hearing YOUR truck, it's hard to say for sure, BUT, I've noticed that I hear the PS pump on my 2015 way more than I did on my 2003.

I hear it at times that I wouldn't think I should be hearing it, but all I hear are the hydraulic sounds, and not bearings or anything like that.

Keep in mind that the brake assist (power brakes) are also powered by the hydraulics of the PS pump, so it's under load even when you're not necessarily turning the wheels.

Thanks. It is the common hydraulic noise, but I mean it kicks in with the slightest touch of the wheel to the right. To hear that over the wind noise, engine, etc., it sure seems something is amiss.

I would agree yours sounds excessive based on your description. I'm only conscious of mine at low speeds or tight turns (U-turns, etc. I notice it).

That you hear it more on right hand turns makes me question the steering box itself.

Is your fluid level good? The do tend to make more noise when they're low on fluid.
