Adding 52 gallon fuel tank in rear of 5500

What is required to add a 52 gallon OEM fuel tank to the rear of a 2016 5500 that was special ordered with 22 gallon tank only? We do not want a tank on the bed because our equipment wont fit then.

Do you want to add the tank or replace your 22 gal tank?

Either way. Which ever is easier. 52 or 74 gallons will work for me.

I would say switching to the 52 and dropping the 22 is the best and fastest way, adding a tank requires reprogramming of the trucks default calibration. I have both tanks in mine, the rear 52 gal tank is held in place with a skid plate on the bottom, You should be able to get all the parts you need from either ram or a salvage yard.

One issue with changing the tank that cannot be fixed. The Distance to empty screen cannot be changed because that is programmed into the vehicle at the factory and cannot be updated. And the fuel pump module assemblies are different between the midship and rear tanks. One other option is to go to an aftermarket midship tank like Transfer Flow. It comes in kit form so all your existing lines will connect. I think they are 42 gallons.
