I've heard that the new 4.5L Duramax was designed to fit into the same space as the existing gasser engines and use the same mounts so I would imagine that Dodge gave the Cummins engineers the same marching orders.
Also the I4 doesn't have as smooth of a power delivery as an V6, I6, V8 etc.
And who wants an I4 in their truck? I get enough grief from my Powerstroke and Duramax friends over the 6 cylinder 'tractor' engine in my truck.

I gotta say, I wouldn't mind having an I4(diesel of course) in a halfton pickup. Just think, 1/2 ton short bed 4x4, I4 with some serious low end torque for some great rock crawling! They can give me grief all they want, but they wouldn't want to hook up would they...
Also why are they going from the cast iron head to the aluminum head?
