Fuel Pressure Gauge Install - Pre Filter - Filter Lid

Tells you when your filters are plugging. I don't want this gauge in the cab. Not yet anyway.

How does one post the image in the thread ? won't work with those urls.

I'll put a 45 degree bend on it someday so the gauge is easier to read.

There is no need to drill a pilot hole to put the gauge on. Just tap the existing hole. I think the connector is #6 ORB. The thread is 9/16NF (18TPI). The tap is whatever is between a taper tap and a bottoming tap. I can't remember the name at the moment. Don't use NPT because you will probably break the lid. Use ORB because the threads aren't tapered and the ORing seals easier.

I've been running a Walbro 392 since 2000. How long did your fuel pump last ?

Looks good SD. Did you just make a plate that sits under the grid heaters to mount the Cat filter ? I that what I`m seeing in the last pic ?

Also, Geno`s has a tapped filter lid, but I just can`t see paying 80 bucks for it. Glad to know the stock lid can be drilled and tapped.

Yes, I made the plate. There are more pictures of it in my gallery.

Tapping the filter lid took all of 20 minutes.

I have tons of pictures for both projects. I like working on my Cummins, especially these little projects.

Thanks.

I'll go into detail on the gauge and filter stuff when I get a chance. I'll have to get some pictures loaded up first.

Very nice innovation!

Just curious, why wouldn't you want the gauge in the cab?

Yep. You can screw a filter gauge right into the 1/8" NPT port.

Thanks. I don't need the gauge in the cab because I run a Walbro. It is capable of developing 80 PSI without breaking a sweat, so my pump isn't going to starve. I only need to periodically check that my filters aren't getting dirty and I'll do that by periodically opening my hood and looking at the gauge.

I've got a future mod concerning reading info from the engine that might include reading a sensor on the fuel filter lid.

The Walbro is CAPABLE of those pressures. Use regulators on them to limit the pressure to whatever the pump needs. 15 PSI, etc.

superduty check it out i am here! cool site thanks for the invite.....when i read this post and your sensor statement....a light went off upstairs! check it out you can buy a low pressure switch for a a/c system except get one for a low temp freezer there usually around 15-20 psig and wire up a little 12v led in the truck like somewhere really not noticable like the ash tray just drill a tiny hole and mount it so when the pressure goes low the light wont glow or get a little 12v micro relay from the raido shak and reverse the action so it glows when the pressure is low ........the beauty would be that it would screw right on to that 1/4 x 1/4 flare you installed already....just grab a switched 12v sorce (i am sure you know to do that)

Hey SD, thanks for letting me know about this place. And once again thanks for a new, inexpensive mod... Now I just gotta get the time to do all this stuff.
