Will an 07 5.9 work in an 05 truck?

I have a friend who lost the motor in his 05 at 190,000, and i have an 07 engine that i had slated for a swap. He wants to buy the engine from me. What will need to be swapped from the 05 to make it work in his truck? The one i have is complete with everything except the accessories on the front. Any help would be appreciated.

I would imagine as long as you use the ECM from the 07, it'd work. Because in 06.5 they changed something in the computer, I believe with how the injectors are fired. Thus, TST and some other boxes dont work on 06.5-07 trucks, where they work on trucks before 06.5.

What about electronics between the 05 truck and the 07 engine? will they talk to each other? Also, are the turbos the same?

Tell your friend to keep that motor on a leash and he wont lose it. Anyways why not rebuild it. What went wrong with it? 190,000 shouldn't be completely shot unless there was poor maintenence.

I don't know exactly what happened. Only that the mechanic said something about pulling a load of pavers and a bobcat with crazy larry. Frankly, i'm surprised the motor went past 20000 with this guy. I did mention that he should just rebuild it, but he said if he could make the 07 engine work he'd rather go that way. It only has 9000 miles on it.

Actually I was just washing dishes and that popped in my head. The 07 is CAN-BUS, where the 05 isnt. Maybe the 05 ECM can be used instead of the 07. Ive read about this exact swap before, just need to go digging for more info.

CAN-BUS is just the communications protocol the ECU uses to communicate with the peripherals. Have to use the 05 electronics and transfer all to the new engine. That said, there is very little difference in the hard parts between the years so it should swap in easily. Possibly the injector wiring connectors may be different but not sure.
