All the crap in the stock Airbox tubing?

So I took my stock airbox off to install my block heater cord. After I disconnected the air box from the turbo I looked into the tubing and noticed that there is a white plastic directional fine thing that guides air into the turbo and above that there is a cross thing that is black. What are these for and do they need to be there?

That white plastic piece is also easily removed from the elbow.

I figured as much. Now if I take the junk out could it be easily replaced in case they decide to start smogging diesels in my part of the states? or will they even care to see if its there?

dont think they'll care or even want to disassemble your
intake tube to look.

aftermarket cia's have to comply with federal standards i
do believe ( correct me here folks ) and they have no
restrictive material in the tubes.

You will gain NOTHING by removing the white piece in the elbow! I won't argue about the baffles in the torque tube.

Mine is probably the minority opinion on this subject, but I would leave it alone. Dodge spent the extra money and added extra weight to your truck for a reason by including these devices, and I know that I don't have the qualifications of their engineers who did the CFD analysis. If it wasn't necessary, it probably wouldn't be there.

I had mine apart two weekends ago for the very same reason (block heater cord install), and was looking at the "X" cross plates in the straight tube. My conclusion is that it is there to help silence intake tract noise, which seems to be a huge concern with the later trucks judging by how Dodge includes a lifetime noise warranty (per the owners manual) that isn't really elaborated on.....

It makes it louder and increases the turbulence to the turbo.. My silencer ring is MIA, but my white baffles are there.
