You have to take into account that you can still fit 8 gallons into your fuel tank after your gauge hits FULL. It's like this on every car. Your gauge doesn't account for the fuel above and beyond the full mark, and in the filler nozzle, etc. So when you burn fuel from the full mark to the 3/4 mark, don't think that you've only burned 1/4 of your fuel. You've burned more.

I would say a true way to get your mileage is to run 10 tanks through and then hand calculate your mileage.

look at my sig... i think 03 so250hp get better mileage than most 3rd gens. my truck will sometines go 240-260 mile before getting to the 3/4 mark, it always goes 200 or more. i normally get 22-24 but can do better if i baby it , or worse if i stand on it... be carefull with your mods and mpg may increase...:thumbsup

Blah.. I'm happy if mine hits 300 by the half tank mark, that is usually where I want to be on highway driving which always hand calculates out to about 20-22. I hope this edge will improve that when I get it and install it!

My trip to work is about 50 miles one way, all rural 2 lane country roads. Avg speed is 45 mph. My hand calculated mileage is around 21.1 or so. My overhead says 22.4. The first 1/4 after topping off takes a while to run down, but after that it drops like a rock.

With mine I get about 100-110 before the needle comes off full. I get about 300-350 at the half mark and I usually get about 550miles out of a tank. This is based on about a 34 gallon fill. So that is about 16 mpg. When I went to new york being all highway driving I hit 550 miles and still had almost a 1/4 tank left so that tank I did really good. I try to run no more than 65 on the highway though. This was also before I had my bully dog. I am hoping with intake and exhaust I will pick up another mile or two and get in the 20's.

I do not haul anything. I on the highway i usually get 19.5 to 20.5 hand calculated...this is an averaged depending on driving conditions ( posted speed limit, weather, drafting etc.).
I once got 21.5 hand calculated with a 40 mph tail wind.

Tank size and what the gauge reads are irrelevant to mpgs.

The ONLY way to determine actual mpgs is miles driven / gallons used.

So if you drove 300 miles and filled it back up with 12 gallons that would be 25mpgs.

What I do is try to use the same pump every time (not always possible) and fill it until it clicks and not top off. There will always be a small error, but you can get a good average. And if I do top off I record the number of gallons I go over and use that on the next mpg calc, since that's out of the normal for me.

Yep

That was my point.

I'm having 342's installed today. I was getting 22 on the highway. Now I can run at posted speeds of 70 and still stay in the 6.7 sweet spot. I'm expecting 24 now empty.

I recently got 16.9 with a light load of 7000 in tow up into the North Country in New York State. I got 15.4 with 8000 on the return, same route, with a head wind. That is fantastic mileage for the conditions.

Dang, I screwed up and bought a '04 2500 w/ 4:10 and went by the computer. I figured it was a little off. It was reading 21-22. Actually getting 16.25. This was babying it and keeping it at 2000 rpm. If I drive it like I like and drive 70mph at 2200mph it's worse.
I think my tires are undersized, so that is a factor, I got 4" straight pipe w/ cat and resonator. I think there is some kind of programmer, but not sure yet. I'm dying cause I got rid of a 17.5mpg to get this one. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
