hard to shift NV5600

just got a super clean 04.5 quad cab dually, 4X4 with a NV5600 trans. is it me or is it hard to find some of the gears at times. i work for International and have a Class A CDL, i drive 18 wheelers and have no prob. Yes i do miss a gear every now and then. i have tried double clutching, speed shifting and just easing it in and slamming it in. it seems to be worse when cold. i was thinking of maybe changine the fluid. any ideas

Mine was the same (just got it 2 wks ago, 60k mi) until I dove it up on 8" blocks, drained and filled with 5.25+ qts redline MT90. There are threads all over on oils, filling, etc. YMMV, but made a huge difference.

Macko, nothing against your driving skills, you just are not tuned into the tranny yet. There have been many posts on this subject and most of the time it just takes time to get use to it.

I would also change the oil if it never has been, It seems to help but not really.

Do a search for NV and it should bring up everything you need to know.

ALSO IT DOESN'T TAKE GEAR OIL.

I had the same problem when I first got mine but now I am used to it. Its the roughest shifting truck I have ever driven. Its almost like it takes a second or so for the syncros to line up.

I hope you didn't use MT90 in a NV5600. The 6spd uses a special 5w-30 gear lube. Pennzoil Synchromesh, Amsoil MTF and Redline MTL can be used.

The MT90 is for the NV4500.
