Dirty Filter???
Would this be considered a dirty filter? It has around 4500 miles on it.

Some people change there fuel filter every oil change. My OEM fuel filter lasted me 35,000 miles before it made me change it. Started acting up a bit, running like doodie.

I bought the truck in January with 28,500 miles on it. The dealer supposedly changed it before I took delivery of it. It now has 33,000 miles on it. I've never changed one, so I don't know what a dirty one looks like.

I think with a fuel filter, once they get soaked with diesel they all kinda look the same.

I do mine at 15K like the manual states. I also drain my filter cannister about once a month to make sure no crap or water is building up. BTW, that is what my filter usually looks like when I change it. I would be willing to bet it would look like that if i changed it a 500, 5000, or 15000 miles.

That valve you lift to drain out the water has a little "o" ring on it that if it gets dirt under it will give you all kinds of grief. I have an oil sample suction pump and draw out the fuel then I use the shop vacuum to clean the canister. Putting a clean filter in a dirty bowl, seems like a waist to me. PLAY SAFE!
