I didn't read the thread yet, does it explain how to mod the FCA? That looked like a different FCA (like for a different application?)? I assume pulling the FCA and reinstalling it doesn't throw a code?
The modded FCA is a stock one with massaged holes. I didn't take it apart, but it looked like the plunger / piston inside was massaged a bit too.
You can interchange FCA's and it will not set codes as a result. A bad FCA could cause any of or all of: injector rattle, fluctuating idle, white smoke from low rail pressure that causes late injection timing, etc.
You can put a stock FCA on a modded CP3, but will lose some of the effects of the modded CP3. You can put a modded FCA on a stock pump and it will work fine too.
BTW both my stock and modded FCA's rattled fine per the manual specification so the manual is a useless POS in this regard.
If one looks at the FCA and visualizes how the solenoid actuation interacts with the internal spring and plunger, one can appreciate that the FCA internals need to be machined to close tolerances that need to move freely at the proper time such that fuel flow and resultant rail pressure occurs at the proper time. To truly see what is wrong with an FCA we need to take it apart and closely visually inspect it.

I called Cummins yesterday to check on a fca and they said they did not show one as a servicable part, but if I could get a part# maybe they could find it.Is the fca available through dodge and is it a star part, this bites when you need a part and can't get it.

Try a Bosch delaer and see if they can get it. It is now a serviceable part so Bosch would be my first try.
tonight I fired the truck up with the fca unplugged and the press. shot straight up to 26000psi so my problem is definately the fca.set off code 602 but I broke out the power pup and cleared it out.

Stupid question, but how are you measuring the pressure? You got that new rail gauge?
