06 mega cab questions

I just got an 06 MC 5.9 with 125,000 on it. I have heard this was a good year, any truth? It has a 6 inch suspension lift and 35 inch toyos. the truck has aftermarket exhaust but the engine is still stock. I just got it today, but I have noticed when I get on it a bit, it reaches maybe 3rd gear and kinda waits until I let off a bit to shift. Normal or not? I was thinking of getting a programmer, good or bad idea? I have been told smartys are good on cummins for mpg. I would like a little more HP and the shifting delay to be solved! I drove from missouri to Iowa and first tank was 15.6 second was 18.3 and the 3rd was
14 : / thought about adding a cold air intake???

Any words of wisdom are welcome : )

I couldn't tell you much about the trans issue, although I'm sure someone on here can.
I would strongly suggest getting an efi live for your programmer, and some gauges to monitor your egt, trans temp(if it's automatic), and boost.

I love my 2006 m/c. But mine is not lifted. And still run stock size tires. I found my programer used. Paid 150 for it. I got piller gauges installed boost, trans, and egt . They are worth the money if your going to add a programer. There a must. And look up the megacabeddie a/c fix on here. A big difference in a/c performance. I did mine and a world of difference. And mine has the same trans issue from time to time . its not all the time. I'm just waiting for it to go out. then its build time. But good luck with your truck.

I have an 06 MC with a 3" lift, 35s and running EFI Live, previously ran the Edge JWA. EFI Live would allow you to change your shift points easily if your trans isn't actually bad yet and is probably the best programmer you can get on the market at the moment.

Welcome to the club. 15.6mpg is the best i have gotten sofar on my 07 and thats probably 90% at 65mph. Some people say the 06's get better mpg than the 07's, idk but mabey. We only have a 4 speed tranny so its going to take long shifts. Programers are ok, but if your not careful you can turn a stock trans into an oversized paperweight.

I drove from Iowa to Colorado on Monday and only got 13-14 mpg. seems a bit low? given thats running around 80 mph. But it just seems like my trans is confused when to shift, and when I am accelerating, it always shifts when I let off a bit. I had a friend say it could POSSIBLY be the torque converter or pressure issue??? Any links to programmers and gauges would be greatly appreciated. Also, I have not checked fuses, but my horn doesnt work, is that common on these?

come on guys! I also noticed my A/C doesn't seem to have much fan speed, it couldn't seem to keep up. So any preference over EDGE, smarty or EFI live?????

At least the trans is still shifting. Its common with the 48re and many dodge trannies, not saying its normal. A/C's suck in these trucks especially the mega. To much room for the same A/C that its the quadcabs. It could always be worse.

Easy check on the AC. The fan motor is under the glove box on pass side. 3 screws hold it in. The fan motor will fall down and you can stick your hand in the hole and see if the recirc door has broken and fell on top of the fan and is blocking the air. The broken piece will fit through the hole with a little manuvering. My door broke and I pulled it out and it was a huge difference.
That was on a 05 and I'm not sure if the 06 is the same but I would think it is. Search "recirc door" on the forum and I'm sure a few how to's will pop up.

I have an Edge JWA. If EFI Live would have been around when I got mine thats the route I would have gone. It's pretty awesome from what I read.

06 is a great year. Absolutely love mine. Mine shifts out of third around 45 mph. Reason for the hard shift is because the 48re runs at such high pressures. I did put in a borg worner pressure solenoid and noticed an improvement in shifts definitely a good mod to do. As for the AC you need to look up ac upgrade on this site and see how to do the heater core shutoff valve and removing the screens under the dash to improve flow. if you have any more questions just send me a pmand i am glad to help

I would say overall the 06 Megacab has been a great truck for me. Hopefully you don't have to deal with TIPM issues that plagued the '06 the worst (most common issue is one of the headlights will stop working, lots of threads on this site regarding it). As far as I've noticed, that's the only real issue with this truck. The A/C as mentioned can take a LONG time to cool down the truck when temps get above 85-90, but it does eventually cool down. I am considering doing the heater core block mod to increase the efficiency.

Thanks man!

Is there any link directly to this Solenoid??? I think it would be a good improvement. I also ordered a K&N intake, the truck still had stock air intake on it, and I have been told diesels are made to breathe!!!
