I just replaced wp, thermostat, belt tensionser and belt and now am doing a flush. I have drained radiator and now filled with distilled water, and will continue until all clean. The question is do i need to run the truck to operating temp each time doing this flush so the thermostat kicks in, or just run for a few minutes then drain? Then wait till truck cools and drain then just continue process?
I drove mine around for a day. I only work like 12 miles round trip from work so the truck would get up to operating temps twice. Then I would drain. It took like 4 drains I think before I felt was clear enough. My truck runs much cooler now.

anyone else???just finished draining and filling again with distilled. i will run to normal temp i guess unless someone responds...how do i know if thermostat is opening
You do not need to heat it up. Run if far a minute or so with the heater set to hot to flush the coolant out of the heater core.
When you drain the distilled water you will not get it all out. Just add 3.5 gallons of HOAT 100% antifreeze and then finish filling with distilled water to get the 50/50 mix..
When you fill the radiator you may have air trapped in the engine. Remove the small allen plug that is close to the thermostat and fill until the coolant comes out. Put the plug back in and finish filling the radiator. I know for a fact that your can trap up to a gallon of air. When I replaced my water pump I saved the coolant and when I put it back I had a gallon left over. I drove it up and down some very steep hills but that didn't allow the air to get to the top of the radiator. Had to remove that allen plug.
