06 mega cab dually 12 valve swap help

ok guys i did alot of searching and cant find what im looking for, i got my 06 mega cab with a 97 12 valve motor running and on the road, the only guages that dont work in the factory 06 cluster is the tach and oil pressure i was trying to find out where the tach signal comes from under the hood and how to get it working on the 97 motor also same with oil pressure guage although its not as important to me i was planning on running a mechanical oil guage anyway , thanks for any help

The tach I can't really help you with, but I do know you'll never get the 06 oil pressure gauge to work - because its a dummy. You'll have to either get a real gauge and put it in some mount, or some how work it into the dash, then use the factory pointer if you want.

Tach runs off the crank position sensor. The ECU reads the sensor and puts the signal on the bus to the cluster to display the reading. The CR CPS uses a tone ring and a set of teeth to generate the signal. The 12V uses a notched damper to generate the signal. Not going to the same signal.

Did you move the CR damper to the 12V and use the CR CPS or ???

cr motor uses crank and cam sensor for the tach. went thru this on my 03 conversion. You mite be able to get a kit from destroked or fordcummins for it to work.

That is the place to start. The cam sensor might be a bigger issue if it won't work without it.

Mind if I ask some of the details of this swap? Did you use the 06 engine harness on the 12 valve? What about the 06 ECM? Does your A/C work?

I did a 2005 12 valve swap and I mounted the tone ring on the outside of the 12 valve damper leaving the cr computer plugged in mounted to the frame. The ac compressor will work and the alternator will charge if the pcm see's rpm it does not care about the cam sensor It will log 50 codes every start but will work fine! This also works on a dakota!

On the swap to put the 12 valve In the new truck, did u buy mounts from someone? I know the mounts are In Different spots on the engines. I'm putting a 12 valve in an 03 dodge dually and would like to buy the mounts instead of building them. Thanks
