cracked flexplate

well i noticed a wierd sound coming from under the hood sounded like a bird chirping when driving down the road a couple of days ago and had looked at it then and couldnt find anything till today when i started it to go to town it sounded like a bad pully. ended up taking the truck to my work and checking it out there took the bottom cover off of the trans and for dumb reason i took my fingers and grabed the flexplate and it moved back and forth. took me and a buddie not quite 2hr's to get the transmission out.. the flex plate was cracked all the way around. so what kinda flex plate should i get. a aftermarket one or just get another stock one? have alot of people had this prob? oh and found out also today the old owner that had the truck had a new short block put in at a 100,000 miles and i have 128,000 on it now

If you want a stock one I have one with 35K miles on it, If you pay the shipping you can have it. However Id recommend a billet flywheel. If you want it PM me.

This same thing happened to me and I went back to a stock one just because of price at the time. If I had to do it again I would put in a Billet one just for piece of mind. I will say that the stock one I put back in has worked great for the last 40K since I put it in. Basically it is up to you on what you want to do. Good luck

be sure to put in new quality US made grade 8 bolts and use the red permanent threadlocker on them. lots of imported pot metal bolts out there. full line major bolt jobber is the place to go.

make sure your torque converter is not starting to fail, lock and grab on coast down, throws a hell of a shock load on the stock FP.

I replaced mine 2 years ago with a "heavy duty" flexplate, after i cracked the stock one, cracked the heavy duty one last week. This time I spent the money on the Billet.
