cummins conversion in ford van e350

I have a 2006 E350 4x4 ford van with a 5.4 gas engine. I am considering a cummins with standard (dodge) transmission and transfer case. I know that most guys use an adapter plate but is there a reason that i couldn't just go dodge and then adapt the drive lines?? Also if there is any info floating around about cummins van swaps i would appreciate the leads

I am new to the forum so let me know if there is a beter place to post this question.
