What this wire is most likely causing is a fall in the 5 volt circuit. 5 volts is used by the computer to sense different measurements on the engine. When this circuit gets grounded and it's voltage goes down below 5 volts; all kinds of strange things can happen. In fact, you can't predict what will happen when you do this to a computer. Same thing can cause your computer at home to start doing all kinds of strange things.

I wouldn't think it was your grid heater. I haven't had a grid heater for a couple of months now. It hasn't affected it at all. If it only does it the first time you start it cold and it doesn't come and go intermitently; it probably isn't this wire. It could be a mechanical problem.

Thanks for the response, I got under the truck this morning and wiggled the wires before firing it up. About 28 degrees here in OR this morning. Wait to start light came on. Once I turned it over it did exactly as you described, stumbled and sputtered then began to idle fine after a couple seconds. The grid heater then kicked in, I could tell by the volt meter. After a little bit the high idle kicked in and sounded right too. I'll keep an eye on it over the next few days and do a fix to cover the wires better. Thank God for this site or I would of been stumped.:thumbsup

Its been almost three weeks and the idle problem has not come back. I took some old fuel line and covered the wires to protect them. Definately was the problem. Thanks again guys.

My truck started to act up today. It sounds like it has a miss in it at an idle. You can only hear it through the exhaust. The engine doesn't shake at at. When I take off and the engine is under a little load it runs rough up to 1,200 rpms. Under a load on a hill and the turbo is spooled if you listen closely you can hear a little sputter in it. It doesn't seem to have any loss of power. I don't know if maybe I had bought some bad fuel. That is when I first noticed the noise in the exhaust. About five minutes before that I had the truck sideways on a hill with the drivers side down hill and low on fuel. The truck died and I started it back up and hooked up to a trailer and went to get fuel. I don't know if maybe I messed up an injector or injector pump or what. I do have a FASS pump on it and the pickup is to the passenger side of the tank. It almost sounds like I have a bent valve from the sound through the exhaust but I don't see how the truck would do that. ANY IDEAS???????????

THis was a awsome find, I didnt even see the cut in the wire but my truck runs purfect now. There use to be a stall when it was cold (it's gone). I also had a downshifting problem. I realize it sounds like bull however I have had this problem where I go to pass someone, or even take off fast and it wont shift into the next gear, it's seemed as if it would come out of gear instead of going into the next gear when under a load(my foot). The wire fixed it though. Thanks again TITS
