Wow that would look extremely hard to detect as even a problem!

This must be causing some type of Radio Frequency Noise/Interference with the CPS signal with the wire exposed only so little.

Nice info thanks for posting!

would it be a good idea to avoid the 03 because it is a new model year?

is this still a fix for an 05? my truck started giving me problems when i started it yesterday, it would run rough at idle and as i drove it seemed like it didn't have power...like it was down a cylinder. i also noitced that my a/c doesn't work too...turned out to be a fuse blown (a/c clutch) but when i replaced it, it blew the new fuse. i think i've got a short and now i'm gonna go under there and check that wire. but do you think it could be my issue?

thanks for the info!

Yoda,
What'd ya find? (I think it could have been your problem!)

Kelownacummins,
No I don't! You see, the thing with Dodge has been that they are constantly changing things in these trucks. So if you aren't going to buy a 'new model'; you might not buy a Dodge..... I would recommend checking it out like you would any vehicle you want to buy. If it is in good shape, get it: you'll be glad you did!

(Welcome to the site!)

nope, no luck there. the wires didn't look bad, just dirty. the only wire that ran close to the compressor was the wire for the a/c switch. although i did replace the fuel filter last week, so i'll see if that fixed it...but so far so good.

Ok guys. Were those rough idles when the truck was cold? did it smoke when it ran like that? Did you notice any strange fluctuations in fuel milage before you fixed this?

Obviously the reason I ask is because when I start my truck cold, it idles very rough, and smokes a lot of white smoke. It's not sweet smelling like antifreeze. Also sometimes the truck gets amazing fuel milage, and sometimes it gets worse than my 4.7.

If these symptoms don't match this problem, any ideas?

I hope this isn't high jacking your thread.
Murray

Murry,
White smoke is too much fuel in a cold motor. Not good: keep an eye on your oil level. If it goes up at all, stop running your engine as it is getting fuel in the crankcase! You will have to try and notice what else goes with it or exactly when it does it. Like having to sit overnight, or if the temps have to fall to a certain point, or what ever. Or did I mis understand and it does it all the time?
What varies with your mileage or is it under the exact same conditions that it fluctuates so much?

my idle problem

i have just developed an idle problem but it only does it on the first startup. once my motor is warm it idles fine. could it be my grid heater? is this wire a part of the grid heater system also? i will take a look at this area first thing in the morning and hope that this is the fix.
