Turbo Whistle Too Loud

I bought my '07 5.9 a few months ago used. It had a drop in K&N in it when I bought it. I decided to put a cold air K&N in it yesterday, and noticed that the silencer ring had already been removed from the turbo by the previous owner. I didn't notice much of a whistle at all before, until I changed to the cold air intake. Now the whistle is almost obnoxious on the highway. (I use it as an everyday work truck mostly) It does sound cool, but I have a feeling it will get to be too much. Exhaust is all stock still. Where can I get another silencer ring? Or is there something else I can do to quiet that whistle down? A friend suggested putting a straight pipe on to drown out the whistle

silencer ring does'nt do a whole lot. I have the same complaint with my AFE intake. Its kinda obnoxious on long trips. The best i find was the modded stock air box with the mopar filter. Good sound Good flow Good filtration. And cheap.

You might be able to return the intake kit under a satisfaction guarantee from the retailer. If they won't, call K&N; they once told me that they would reimberse the cost if the seller wouldn't. The K&N's are generally considered sub-par for turbo diesels for a few reasons, all disussed extensively on this and other forums. You can do a search on this site to read more about it.

The new, deeper Mopar replacement filter for the stock box flows and filters as well as an aftermarket filter without the whistle and meets the warranty requirements for the engine. That's what I would do if I didn't already have an S&B.

You're saying the K&N cold air doesn't meet warranty requirements? They told me it did...

K&N claims that the intake kits won't void the warranty, but there have been warranty claims denied due to the presence of aftermarket intakes of any brand, just like any other unapproved modification as described in the vehicle owner's manual. What I mean is that it will be a non-issue with the Mopar filter and stock intake.

I sent my ring to TNebel. I got a PM from another guy looking for one so if anybody pulled theirs and is just going to trash it you could be a sport and post up so guys looking for one could get a hook up. Cost me $1.40 to ship it 1st class USPS.

i noticed on my 5.9 the turbo sounded like a f-16 flying overhead at highway speeds until i put a 5' TBE straight pipe on, then that was louder than my turbo... problem solved. Order your silencer ring from the stealership, make sure it comes with a snap ring, if you dont have a set of snap ring plyers, go get a set so u dont screw up the turbo... I didnt take mine off because of the whole "its there for a reason" thought, some engineer put it there making 150k a year, not the farmboy down the road who says "take er out, it aint guna harm nuttin."

Not a fram boy and love how my truck sounds with out the ring in there. Only reason they were put in there is because of people who don't like how the turbo is really suposse to sound like.

Don't like the noise put everything back to stock or buy something else to drive.
