5.9 Valve Cover Gasket Replacement

I just completed a search of this forum and found no results that are applicable to my engine.

I need to replace the gasket. It will be the first time for me doing this job on this engine. I'm looking for detailed instructions on how to do it, what to look for, any tips and hints.

Any assistance that you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

its very easy. take the four 8 m.m. bolts and the oil fill cap off then remove the plastic engine cover.

then remove the 6 8 or 10 mm bolts that hold the valve cover on, lift up and pull forward and it comes right out. replace the gasket, and reverse procedure.

Yep ^^^. Be mindful of the breather hoses that need to be disconnected, as they can be old and brittle. Other than that it's fairly straight forward. Just be careful removing it as it will probably hit the cowl on the truck and possibly knock some dust/junk onto the rockers/valves/etc.

Excellent! Sounds to me like it will not take more than an hour to complete the job. Do I have to be concerned about a specific torque for those bolts?

Again, thank you for your help!!

Nope it's very straightforward. My toughest part was getting the breather hoses disconnected, as they were really on there, but once the seal was broke they slid right off. As for torque, I believe 18ft-lbs. That according to the injector install directions I have sitting in front of me. Anyone have a service manual handy to confirm/correct?
