Does the Smarty automatically do the fast idle or do you have to do something special when programming? Also, how do I know when it is working? Is it when the motor is cold and the motor speeds up until warmer? Wow I just asked too many questions. Thanks guys for putting up with them.

Have a 2007 and the dealer enabled the high idle feature at no charge. Also had him turn on the Day Time Running Light feature. I've always had it on my GM vehicles and think it is the safer way to drive.

The Fast Idle, from what the dealer explained, is nothing more than a PTO option. It's enabled by turning on the cruise, hitting set, and then hitting the accl button to idle it up. I'm not sure how the smarty would turn that on.

That's something I'm going to have to try on Monday when the dealer loads the Fast Idle for me. I think your Dad is on to something!:thumbsup

Well, I tried what your dad was thinking and that didn't work. I didn't think it would.

On the other hand, I got the High Idle enabled today and the dealer only charged me $22.00 to do that and rotate the tires. I can't complain! It works like a charm and that's with the $12.00 part from the cummins dealer!:thumbsup

Here are the pictures that I took this morning.

High Idle Pin# 22 Install

Save the picture and then zoom in. The yellow wire goes into PIN #22 and then to the ground on the right. That's all there was to it and trust me, if I can do it anyone can!:thumbsup

I just went to the parts store and the pin alone was $4.85. I got one but I sure think I should have gone ahead and gotten the other one as well while I was there. I plan to try and put the pin in while I am installing my exhaust brake this next weekend. I will let you know how it turned out.

Dieselguy,
I saved the picture that you have labeled and tried to zoom in on it but when I zoomed in on the text it became blurry to where I couldn't read it. Can you tell me what you have written in yellow and also green? Also, Can I go to the dealer first and have the software enabled before proceeding with the steps you listed or do I have to do the first six steps and then go to the dealer and have it enabled. Thanks!

That is automatic and only happens when certain temp parameters are met... by having the dealer enabling the fast idle circuit you can do it when you want.. if its an auto all you have to do is have it enabled... with a manual (I am guessing this is you) you either need the clutch switch kit or to ground pin #22 on the ECM.
