New Jake brake

Just had my new Jake brake installed. I got the Jacobs brand made for the Cummins 5.9. Wow! You better have your seat belt on when she kicks in. The brake stays ingaged all the way till dead stop...yes you get pretty much the same sound even though it works as an exhaust brake instead of a valve brake, you even get the pop pop pop at the low speeds. The brake is tied into the tranny so they work together, I can not wait to go and fill my coal trailer and see how she works on the hills.

I see you went from the 6.7 to the 5.9 in fairly short order. Glad to hear your happy with your Jake. That's just one more confirmation that I should get mine! Got any pics? I'm just wondering about the fit of a brake with a few other planned items.

How much does the Jake cost installed?

I had the dealer install it, so it is covered under a three and five year warranty. It cost me $1300.00. The controler is on the shift lever, and looks like the shifter for a two speed rear, and it says Cummins in larger letters on the side. The only down side is that the compressor makes alittle hissing while building pressure, but I love it!

No it is alot different, there is a air compressor mounted to the right side of the engine, then they put on a larger air intake tube, and then the valve itself is connected in line right behind the turbo just ahead of the down tube.

yeah the factory brake works really well, but mine recently lost the vacuum pump at about 110k miles and made the truck run really funny. Not too bad since u can just bypass it with the regular motor belt, but the dealer wants $730 for just the pump :fist:
the worst part is that i cant seem to find the part anywhere else, and i REALLY miss my brake
if anyone has any leads on a pump, let me know...

Sixspeed here are the part numbers for the vacuum pump

Cummins 3965925
Dodge 5102084AA

Mine has not given out yet - only 10,000 miles but those that have had theirs go out found that you can order the complete pump from any Cummins dealer for under $100

I got to have me a Jake brake, probably save enough on brake pads to pay for it.

I've had mine on since day 1 now have 22,000 miles on it and love it! I never turn it off! Really helps with warming the engine up faster in cold weather too.
