5.9 Cummins - Just tell me what kind of oil to use!!

Howdy brethren (and sistren) -

Just got an '07 DCTD QuadCab 2500HD BigHorn with the 4spd auto tranny and manual 4wd. It was built in Dec of '06 and is thereby one of the last 5.9s out there (or so I have been told). I'm coming up on 75K miles, and wanting to change over pertinent fluids to the best of their respective categories. I have been all over the Honorable AlGore's internet looking for a straight answer on what kind of oil to use. It's like a MENSA convention - 12 people and 13 different opinions.

So - allow me to cut the bull:

Engine oil? best type
Engine oil filter?
A/T fluid?
A/T filter?
Transfer case?
Rear end?
Air filter?
Fuel filter?
Water separator?
AND - I've been reading up on running the 610 H.O. DCTD on WVO. What's the consensus here?

Thanks in advance for the good advice and 13 different opinions!

Cheers,
Justin

First off
I run Rotella T 15W40
Mopar Cummins oil filter
ATF +4
Trans filter is just a screen
I havent changed the transfer case or rears yet but it will be synthetic Royal Purple
Air filter (after market) S&B
Fuel filter/Water sep. is all one Baldwin 7977 (I'm pretty sure thats the number)

I wouldnt run WVO in mine if I were you. These injectors are very sensative. I think that you can run bio but I think its only like B20.

Engine oil? best type

I run Amsoil HD synthetic 15/40 diesel /marine AME

Engine oil filter?
I use the Donaldson Endurance Synteq (Part# ELF 7349). This is a synthetic media filter which is 98.7 percent efficient when faced with 15 micron contaminants, and 50 percent efficient when faced with seven micron contaminants. It is the same filter as the Amsoil EA080 filter (painted different), but cost significantly less than the Amsiol filter.

A/T fluid?

Valvoline ATF+4

A/T filter?
Dodge dealer

Transfer case?
Valvoline ATF+4

Rear end?
Royal Purple 75/90

Air filter?
Baldwin #4162

Fuel filter?
Water separator?
Baldwin #PF7977 - The best fuel filter / water sep.(5um) available that fits in the stock cannister

AND - I've been reading up on running the 610 H.O. DCTD on WVO. What's the consensus here?
I do not run it.

Thanks in advance for the good advice and 13 different opinions!

Cheers,
Justin
Hope that helps!

don't run rotella unless you like the smell of raw oil under your nose. i was running it and when ever i'd get in or out of my truck i'd get a huge wiff of oil smell. its terrible. i starting using delo and no more smell! i may go to valvoline blue though but its a little more $$$$.

So - allow me to cut the bull:

Engine oil? best type AMSOIL 5w40 Syn.
Engine oil filter? The new Fleetguard (can't remeber the number)
A/T fluid? Mopar ATF4
A/T filter? Wix/dodge dealer
Transfer case? Mopar ATF4
Rear end? Any synthetic 75w90
Air filter? AFE/Amsoil Dry Cotten reusable
Fuel filter? Baldwin PF7977
Water separator? See above, there is only one filter on the truck. Consider a FASS or Airdog 100 kit
AND - I've been reading up on running the 610 H.O. DCTD on WVO. What's the consensus here? I don't use it.

Amsoil all the way 15/40 MARINE[.

I run it in everything,(not the 15/40 marine)..motorcycle's, Beemer, etc etc. Have since 1980. Best on the market. Go to thier website & look at the comparisons yourself.

I wouldn't run a FRAM oil filter even if you gave it to me free and paid me to use it. They are complete JUNK.

First of all, ask yourself... do you want to actually filter your oil? Fram really doesn't... not like a quality filter. Do you want your oil filter to last at least as long as your oil change interval? A Fram won't even last 3000 miles before it's paper endcaps dissolve inside, turning it into nothing more than a oil bypass tube.

As far as cheap oil goes... well, I'll say the same thing about cheap oil that I will about cheap filters: The engine in your truck costs anywhere from $5000-12000 to replace. Do you really want to run the cheapest, most questionable stuff to keep it lubricated? Oil is cheap. Engines are not.

I run a fleetguard 2 micron filter and Delo 400. Delo isn't that much more expensive than the cheap stuff at walmart, if at all, and I swear by it.
