Exclamation DTC Code P 0483????

I was driving home yesterday and notice my check engine lite flashed and it caught my eye. I thought I was just seeing things but a few seconds later it flashed twice at me and it didn't do it again. When I got home I did the key trick and it came up with the P 0483 DTC code.

I checked out the meaning of the code and it says "Cooling Speed Fan", what GIVES??? I have a clutch fan and not an electric one. I am baffled on this one. Is this why I get the check engine light flashing really quickly, every now and then? What could be causing this one? Its on my 03 CTD.

Thanks,
Jay

mine does this with the key trick also. that was 4k ago. I read somewhere on this forum that it's BS or a wire had rubbed loose on the fan shroud.??

Well, I called the dodge service manager and he noted that those codes are not always reliable because normally it will keep on the "Check Engine" lite and not just blink really quickly or there is something that is ready to go.

He advice me to come in to have it scanned....Man I am having a hard time with this because I am trying to avoid the $100 deductable for them to do this and its something that I can fix quickly myself.

this code comes up if the actual fan speed is less than 50rpm or greater than 6000rpm when the engine is running.

It looks like there is a sensor on the fan clutch to monitor speed. You should check the wiring to the sensor, as well as the connector - may be loose...

Well it was my water pump that was giving out that caused this issue. The dealer noted that they have seen this before. They replaced the water pump due to leaking and they said the fan clutch was ok. It hasnt come back since then.
