Not sure what I have (I am a noob)

Asking alot of questions in this one:

2 days ago I bought a 2006 2500 4x4. It has the edge J/A and an oversized exhaust on it. is there anyway to tell what else the PO did to it? I dont want to turn the edge up and screw something up in the trans

Also: driving on level 1 that is suposed to be the economy setting I only got 15 mpg in mixed driving but about 3/4 was interstate. Should I he happy with that or might something need attention? I have heard alot of stories abotu 20+ mpg with these things and I am a little let down (especially since the overhead was showing 21.9)

Also, the only diesel I have ever driven besides this was a 6.0 powerjoke and I noticed it was always making boost. my truck only makes about 3 pounds at 55 and the egts are running 600-620 just cruising.

I looked on here for a sticky for noobs to read to get a handle on things but I cant seem to find it.

Anny help would be appreciated.

3# and 600* cruising is great! They don't need boost to make enough power to cruise. Low boost = lower EGT's. You're good there. Keep it below 1400* EGT and you'll be good.

The higher setting you put the Juice on, the better MPG you will get. IF, that's a big IF, you can keep your foot out of the fuel pedal. 15 isn't bad, but could be better, what size tires? What gear ratio? what tranny (auto or manual)? etc all plays a roll in what your MPG will be.

NEVER go by the overhead "lie-o-meter". Always hand calculate.

Fill out you're location, etc in your profile. Location also plays a factor in MPG. Temps will make it vary alot. Especially with winter approaching.
<<----- like that

Edge J/A sucks for mpg in my experience. I wasn't impressed.

how big is your oversized exhaust? and if someone puts on an exhaust they usually put on a new cold air intake, is that still stock?

hot stuff i call b.s. on the higher setting the better fuel mileage, i tried it driving on the highway for two tank 1 tank on mileage tune, and one tank on extreme driving the same on each tank. stopped about 150 miles early to get fuel whenon stage 5. if u just bought the truck, change the oil, and fuel filter and check ur trans fluid. just my rule for buying a used vehicle. so u know when the maintnence was done.

It is an auto, the tires are 285/70/17 Bridgestone Dueler A/Ts.

After I finish this tank off I will turn the juice up to 3, I don't want to go past that till I find out if any trans work has been done on it, I just have no clue how to do that if I cant find out who the PO is and ask.

I am almost having to learn how to drive again. I am used to my F150, if you wanted to do do something even moderately quick you pretty much had to put your foot to the floor. Yesterday I was making a left turn with this truck and just about slid the back of the truck around when I did that.

I am in south Louisiana, not too much of a winter down here.

What might be better? I just like having all the gauges that the attitude has, I saw bullydog has something similar too though.

4" from the turbo back and it does still have the stock intake.

That was the first thing I did, all new fuel, oil, and air filters.

If I would have thought about it I would have saved some of the old oil to send for a test but... hind site is 20/20.

Also, what is a good diesel additive? I was told I have to run something because of the ULSD but the guy at the autoparts did not know whats best. I ended up getting some Power Service in the silver bottle.

I get the best economy when on 5x5 as long as i dont hammer it all the time. The increase in timing is was helps the gas economy.

And everyones truck responds differently to different situations and programmers especially bc of location, altitude, and weather
