250hp what to do to build it up

well i got my knock figured out cracked piston up th skirt on #6. so i was going to replace injector tips but i'm not too sure which ones to get. these cummins are new to me and i don't know where to start for making power. the engine is all apart so nows a good time to beef it up. i don't want anything real crazy (well i do but i can't afford it) best bangfor the buck and something i can go off of in the future if i want.

A programmer will take it to more than a standard h.o.

Mine is a 250hp. Look at my sig. The truck is real reliable with this power. I'm wanting 90hp injectors.

The only difference in the 250hp and 305hp is the programming. If you buy a programmer (most of them anyway) take it up to the standard 305hp and then add their power on top of that. But if you have it torn down and you want to add a cam, that might not be a bad idea. Depending on what you want to do with it.

its a driver and work truck pulling a skid steer and mini ex and the sled in the winter. i can be responsible on the pedal but it is nice to feel the power when you want it.i was going to add bigger tips as i need to replace the stock ones . is 90hp too big without changeing anything else or should i just put on 50's and and a programmer? or go stock tips and a programmer. i want to keep fuel mileage decent. thanks.

If your wanting to stay mild and continue to have your fuel mileage, i would get the 50hp, on the other hand if you ever planning on doing more to the truck in the future than you can run the 90hp nozzels with just a programmer, that way your right there in the middle.

90hp tips + programmer = high EGTS unless you put a bigger turbo, but then you need a tranny to hold, and then you need a fuel pump to supply the cp3 and then you need . . . ..

Its a slippery slope, I say the 50s and a real light programmer if the stuff you are hauling is heavy. The cam shaft would be a perfect upgrade though with the motor all tore down. Pricey but the drop the EGTs and give some power.
