The title says it all, has anyone had this problem and solved it?
The harder i get on it the longer it takes to shift and when i drive like a granpa it shifts smooth and on time..
Trans is only a year old with suncoast parts, suncoast torque converter... Valve body has upgrades pressure solenoid and i hate to say it like this but part of a shift kit.... Truck has never had this problem until a month ago..
I am a mechanic jus not too familiar with transmissions. The trans was put together by me and my old boss. I didnt touch the valve body besides installing it in the trans.. So i do know my way around pretty good. Thanks for anyones help.
The front band is for 2nd gear only. Go here and get your factory service manual and also the ATSG manual. If you have not yet installed a shift kit, then now is the time. Many of us run the Transgo kit with good results.
After checking what broncowilly suggest imo
Easiest way to figure out is to look in Fsm and do diagnostic pressure tests
Otherwise you're just guessing
May be something as simple as a cable that has slipped or a pressure sensor or solenoid that is crapping out. It's a good idea to replace the gov solenoid and pressure sensor as a pair. Here's a link to the better solenoid and a sensor:
So like a idiot a took the the clip off and not knowing where it was sitting at.. I looked inside where the cable slides in and out of for the adjustment and i could see dirt rings of where it has sat before (two different spots). So i tried it with alot of SLACK and the trans shiftin was worse, shifts were even more delayed and just out of wack.
So i started all over and pulled the clip off again but this time i let the cable sit where it wanted to.. I put the clip back on and slid the black square piece into the bracket and noticed i was going to have to pull the metal cable back about a 1/8 of a inch to latch on the lever (dont quote me on that but i can double check if needd for someone) so this time it DIDNT HAVE VERY MUCH SLACK.
Truck drives alot better, the delay is down to jus barley a second before it shifts into 3rd compared to like 3 seconds, Maybe this is just normal defueling between shifts? Hard to say. I can feel the downshifting now a little bit i hope that will be okay...
I had the exact same problem. Called my trans builder and he told me to replace the governor solenoid and pressure transducer. Couldn't tell you what either of them do, but he said they were plastic parts and are frequently the leading cause to trans trouble. So I researched it and found a new part made by BD that's not plastic.
Put it in and the shifts are back to normal and much smoother. It was a good opportunity to drop the pan, change the fluid and put in a mag hytec double deep pan.
My 2nd to third is way to fast , even after soliniod and pressure sensor replacement . also adjusted both bands acuratly .
All this helped a bit , def did not cure shuttle shift with light throttle . Plus the real quick 2nd to 3rd . Little disappointed .
Would messing with the tv cable help ??
2005 truck
Thanks for any tips based on what you have gone thru
They are the same stuff - Borg Warner upgraded solenoid and OEM pressure sensor. This is what I and many folks on here run with no problem. You can pay more if you wish but I honestly don't know that you are getting any better product for your $. I also like that it comes with a gasket. Cascade and electrical advantage are huge names on ebay for Trans parts and they offer the same thing at about the same price. Good luck whatever you decide.
I will take your word for it and give them a shot, thank you.
When they are installed i will give everyone a update.
