I have been working on diesels for twenty years and have seen this on all kinds if the lines are not secured. When I replaced mine about a month ago, the Lithia Dodge Dealer wanted $76, Dodge MSRP is $53, I went to Cummins and got it for $21. The line that I got was an upgrade with a rivet instead of a bolt on the support.

Angry

I just had all new u joints and new carrier bearing replaced. Before the carrier bearing was replaced (broke almost completely off the mount) the vibration was really bad. I really thought that all of thus originally stemmed from the injector that I thought was misfiring. Well since i tightend all of them up 3,4,5,6 were all lose I know it is not the injector. I am really at a loss. I really can not afford to spend any more money this year just to diagnose a problem. Is there another thread that you guys know of dealing with these issues.

[quote]Guys, I have the replacement #4 line... do you recommend using a diesel comptaible thread sealant on both ends of the new #4 injector fuel line[quote]

I know when I was taught (years ago) everything got thread sealant. Especially the stainless stell and the aluminum components. The torque, heat and pressures on the systems would cause the threads to lock together causing them to bind up. Without the thread sealant you would never get the parts to come apart without breaking equipment. Even dry fitting to check installation was considered a "dont do".

Just checked mine and all were tight, but then I just bought this from a dealer who may have had it tightend.

Thanks for this thread and this web site!

I also had the #4 fuel line fail at around 43K miles and spray diesel all over. Pulled in the driveway and even before I got out I could smell fuel. Shut the truck off and popped the hood and fuel was everywhere. Tried to restart the truck to get a quick look for the leak but the truck would not start again.
The new blue plastic clamp on my new #4 fuel line also has a torx head on the bolt.

Question ... How the heck would one ever get at the #6 fuel line tucked way back there? Is it accessible after you remove the chain lift loop/bracket?

I found out about this problem the hard way unfortunately.

My truck is at the dealer and they replaced the 4th injector line but cannot get the truck to restart.

The truck died about a mile after the engine light came on. I cranked it over to find out where the fuel was coming from then called the tow truck. It's under warranty so I let them have at it. The dealer called me and said they have been trying to restart it for over an hour with no luck.

Anyone have any tips for getting it to restart? Could there be another issue since I drove it until it died?

No you did not hurt the engine by driving it with the injector line leaking. BUT you could have caught your truck on fire!!

Sounds like the fuel may have gotten into the wiring connectors.
If they worked on it for one hour and then called you,
Better get a new dealer ,,,
