450smrider, I have an aurora 2000 on my ford(which has the same engine and close to the same setup as yours) and I love it. I think ATS updated it with the 3000, but well worth the money. Lags a touch more than the 2003 holset turbo I had previously, right about 1500 rpm as of now with the Aurora. Unless you can shell out the cash for a Garret ball bearing type, I'd go with an Aurora 3000.

As for a 3rd gen cummins, I've heard that they have a way of spooling a turbo faster (better flowing head, better injection), which is why I agree with Eric. A3k is the best choice for Vandevec, put a Smarty behind that and you'll really SMILE!

Edge is some good stuff, I had an edge juice prior to getting my smarty but the smarty has more power and IMHO is a bit more tailored for the CTD.

Ah...yes missed that the phat shaft is 65mm, the Super Phat is 71mm, and the silver is 74mm.

What does going to a larger turbine do while keeping the compressor wheel the same, say 62mm per say?

And on the oppisite side, when do you know you need to go to a larger compressor, say 62 vs 64 vs 66mm?

It's all about drive pressure management. With the larger exhaust wheel someone can extend a turbo's effective range further up in RPMs before the drive pressure gets out of control. The larger exhaust wheel also increases the turbo shaft speed to help with airflow, of course blade pitch plays a part in this also.

The Silver 62 tends to be a good turbo for the guy looking to get the most HP out of a 62mm charger. The PS is a great towing turbo, but sacrifices a bit on performance due to its lack of high end airflow. The SPS is arguably the best compromise. With the 71 wheel it tows well and allows more flow in the high end than the PS.

IMO the HP ratings are as follows, some may disagree and some have pushed higher:

The Silver 62 will support up to 600, the 64 up to 650, the 66 up to 700.
The SPS 62 will support 575, 64 will support 625, 66 supports 675
The PS 62 will support 550, 64 supports 600 and the 66 supports 650

Aurora

Aurora. Love it. My friend is putting a superphat shaft 66 on his 05 cummins and i will see how it works. I have the aurora 2000 and love spoolup and power, although now i am waaaaaay beyond its capabilities. No surge either. Great stuff.

I enjoy my Silver 62. it is obviously slower to spool than stock however when it lights the power is contagious. I smoke more than I want to I would say that is the only drawback however running the edge on 3,1 or 4,1 is a good compromise. With the smarty I have a hard time accelerating without stopping traffic behind me. On the dyno I made 517 HP with the edge and 490 somethin with the smarty on revo 9. I only made one pass with the smarty and ran out of time. Dunno If i drained the rail or what but the power was not there. I am happy driving around with the edge and 500hp at the press of a button.

I got my stuff in yesterday and wow. The 90hp Dragon Flow injectors run so smooth almost disappointing just sounds like a deep tone gaspot that is until ya get on it. The ATS manifold fit perfect and the Silver 62 took some patients to install and I found out that the little transition elbow to the exhaust you must take out the two guide tits or you’ll never get it to mate up. The only bad this is that the ATS sub-Zero intercooler I had to trim my safety hood latch to get it so it didn’t hit the intercooler and I could close my hood. I don’t know how the 3000 would have been but the 62 going up a hill at 1200 rpm was 3lbs of boot then at 1300 rpm = 6psi, 1400 rpm= 9psi but at 1500rpm it went from 10psi to 20psi in a snap and then to 40psi by 1800 rpm with Edge on 3.2 it was amazing. Just a little info for others and a thanks goes out to Industrial Injection I can’t wait to see how it tows

That is what I wanted to hear...I am on the fence of the Super Phat 62 and the Silver 62. The only thing I am worrried about is the spool, but I hardly ever tow (once in the last 2 years), so it is good to hear your report as I can live with it a lot more than someone who may tow. Also you posting in a for sale thread about you price...can you PM where your got your Silver 62.

yeah it gets it and from 1800 RPM to when I shift it a solid 40 to 43 PSI and is smooth puts a hell of a smile on your face
