TST Digital/Pillar pyro hookups....

I have the R49 tst with digital gauges. Before the install I had a dual a-pillar pod with boost and pyro. I would like to just leave the pillar in as it's much easier to glance at quickly without really taking my eyes off the road. The TST remote is located to the right of my steering wheel just under the factory gauge cluster and often times I have to look around the wheel to see the temp. I just unscrewed the old probe and inserted the tst probe and stuck the old one in a little loop I found under the hood until I figured out what I wanna do with it. Can I unhook the old probe from the wire to the guage and hook it up with the the tst probe wires and not mess up anything? I figured it's just like "stacking" stuff up on the battery bolts for power, right?

That’s a good question. I have seen that addressed before by those that know, but I don’t remember what the outcome was. I'm wanting to say not a good idea. Something about the probes working off a voltage difference between two spots and hooking up two probes really throws voltages out of whack, throwing readings way off. I'm not positive on that. Maybe someone that really knows will chime in.

I just did that with my ISSPRO egt gauge. Hooked the tst to the same probe and the numbers are the same. Also I have my tst remote in the ash tray which is much better to see.

the temp probes work off millivoltage differences and decreasing resistance as the temp goes up. the only problem I can see is if you hook one of the probes up backwards at first and have both spiked at full scale.

other than that I dont realy see a problem hooking both the TST and an analog gage up to the same probe as long as the voltages comeing off the TST and the gage are the same.

Well i'm still a little weary about it. I think i'll go ahead and phone TST and see what they say. If worse comes to worse i'll just drill and tap another hole, no biggie.

Well I never called, I ended up just drilling a new hole in the downpipe and putting the analog probe in there so I have pre and post probes.

I did that with my Banks and Di-Pricol gauges for over a year. Never had any problems with it, and the temps never seemed any different when I unhooked/ disabled the Banks. I think you would be just fine.

Yeah the only thing I have noticed is the large difference in temps under more load as much as 4-500+
