what gear for sled pulling with a nv5600
hey guys Im going sled pulling for the first time and woundering what gear I should run it in and if I should run 4 low or 4 high and when I should shift or stay in one gear any help would great ![]()

It really depends on a lot of factors. You are running large tires so it matters even more how much power you have and what your rears are geared at. If you have 4.10 gears and stock or similar tires with mild power increase 4th low is the ultimate. But with the larger tires you would need more power to get it launched or you need to run 3rd low. The higher the gear the more track speed and momentum you get but the clutch and drive train suffers, the lower the gear the easier it is on the clutch but you won't pull as far before the sled overcomes you. Last Sat. nite a 3rd gen won the open class and I don't see how the truck held together. As the auto shifted from 1st to 2nd the truck shot forward like a bullet, I mean hard! A lady with a highly modified 2nd gen auto shifted all the way to 3rd but her shifts were really smooth. Remember these were automatics. Shifting of a standard is not recommended!!!

Good info, I too wanted to know. I'm going to pull for the first time on Aug 2nd. It sounds like for my truck, 4th Low is the way to go with stock height tires and 3.73's.
