Wicked Twisters
Who here is running these? I remember shane launching them a few months back and I was wondering if there were any takers... What kind of boost numbers are you seeing and how is the streetability of them?

Although I have sent my sponsor dues to AutoForums, to advertise on this site, payment has not been recieved yet. This post is meant to only be INFORMATIVE. I do not want to break any policy or rules of the forum, if this post is not appropriate, please delete it. I suppose I can tell you what they are and how they run. The top is a 62/14 with a 65mm turbine. The primary is a S400 with a 74mm inducer a 1.10 A/R turbine housing and a 74mm turbine wheel. Boost at 450 hp is 50 psi. With the new Smarty program on 9 and MP8 all the way up, it just touches 1400 @ 65 psi boost, even on a long pull. With a 5x11 injector, smarty on 8, MP8 all the way up and a VA C5 all stacked together with a CP3 that will make and maintain excellent rail pressure, I see about 70 psi. I did not dyno that combination, but feel it should be 750-800 pretty easily. EGT's become an issue at this level, 1600 comes pretty quick. I only ran this combo for a few runs down a backroad. With some better tuning, I think EGT's can be controlled, some water injection would definately help, as might a higher efficiency intercooler. We had a 64/14/80 single before this setup, boost at cruise speeds and spoolup is quicker than the single charger was. These do great for towing, response is really quick, streetability is great, as they respond quickly as well in stop and go traffic. That big S400 makes some good sounds too. I would rate these as a middle of the road set. Somewhat above towing twins, better response and support than the HT3B twins, not quite what a big turbine S400 or S480 will provide. For most guys, smoke is an issue also you need some boost, cruising down the road for fuel mileage. A big single will not accomplish this, a big set of twins, suffers the same effect. A small set of twins will provide this, but give out too soon. In a world of compromise, a good solution was found. A bit more than towing twins, not quite racing twins, all around twins is a better description.

This is exactly the type of compound kit I have been looking for. Something that falls in between towing twins and a full race twin kit. My truck is my daily driver and tow vehicle for my 26 foot 7000lb GVW race car trailer. I also would like to drag race it now and then. I would ultimately like to see the truck in the mid to high 12s. It seems because of the "do-it-all" nature of my truck, I have been having a tough time finding a sinlge that would do it all well (spool quickly enough for daily driving and tow AND flow enough to make 12 second power). Twins seemed to be the answer, but towing twins didn't seem to offer enough room to grow. Race twins would surely make enough power for my horsepower goals, but I was back to having drivability/towing issues. How well could I expect these twins to tow given my trailer's relatively light GVW?

I just got back from the drag strip, on an 05, 5 inch lift 37's quad cab 4x4, weighs right at 7800 lbs, with all the junk in it. These turbos, 75 horse sticks Smarty on 9 and MP8 turned up, I ran an 8.30, that is right at a 13.00 flat. With less weight and bigger sticks, a low 12 should be easy. I am also near 4,000' elevation. Don't ask me what the pyro showed (too busy driving), but from long runs on the street, it just touches 1400.

I too am looking for a turbo upgrade. I will be coming home from Iraq in a couple months, and a turbo was going to be my welocome home present I thought twins were ouuta the budget, but the price tag on this set looks awesome. Will I be able to run them with my current setup? Within a couple months of the turbo(s) I will be getting sticks (probably DDP 90's) and I'll be doing head studs. Would I have to do studs at the same time? Or can I adjust my boost pressure settings (either through the turbo(s) or my electronics) to keep the boost at say 50?
