high egt's? 06 5.9 mega cab

switched from a ford 6.0 to a cummins 5.9 mega auto 2006 with 35"tires,

that being said im new in the dodge game

ive noticed that my ford ran much lower egt's- stock filter stock exhaust no chip i could hold it to the floor all day pulling my camper and barely hit 1200degrees.

my dodge empty i can easily get 1300 egt's in OD at about 70mph just climbing a hill- seems high empty to me? no tuner is on the dodge it has a 5" exhaust and CAI, banks high ram elbow leveling kit 35" tires and no other mods.

today i hooked up to a 26' jayco humper pull camper-about 6500# and pulled it- climbing the same hill i hit 1200 on before i hit 1400 degrees- is this normal for you guys am i just too paranoid- i have a 600 mile trip to pull a camper on and just wanna make sure these numbers are normal.

also in the future i plan on an efi live tuner- will my egt's just skyrocket with the custom tunes or what? i know on my ford when i tuned it i saw much higher egt's with custom tunes from SCT.

that being said thanks for your replies guys and i am happy with my cummins so far.

I think its your banks ram elbow making you hit 1300, with a programmer on mine ive never seen 1300 the best was 1240 bogged out up a bridge so if your running that hot not towing you might want to change something up

I've got this same problem.. I'm not really sure how this came about as well, but I know it happened after my transmission was rebuilt. Right after.

To the op yes stock 06's run hot you can see 1400 on a stocker, not that anyone likes it but it will do it.

Suomy every aftermarket trans I have had causes higher EGTs in certain situations. Example all of mine have locked up in a gear and don't come out unless you floor it due to increased line pressure. So when your truck would normally down shift and cool down by turning more rpm its not going to do it in the same manner. It's not a big deal you just have to realize its happening and either ride it out, or mash it to get her to downshift. Also when you lock up you are going to get far less slippage transferring more of that power to the drivetrain but also putting some more strain on your engine making her a little warmer.

You must have something weird happening to be running that hot empty at 70mph. My 07 is pretty well the same rig as yours, all stock intake and exhaust and cruising down the highway at 70/80mph I see 800/900* flat or uphill really makes no difference. With my smarty on Revo sw5 and mashed to the floor WOT I see 1400* tops.....

Thats the difference, you have a smarty which runs cooler then stock. To the op your temps are Normal. Nothing to worry about these truck were made to run that hot. My 05 hits the same temp when stock. I've since added a GDP air boss plenum and stock my gets are around 1250. When tuned I use to peg my 1600* gauge now on extreme I only see 1400*.

There isn't a common way on how all the different years were tested. Each design change was done in a different way.

12v and early 24v - 1250°F sustained as long as you want.

03/04 - 1350°F sustained as long as you want.

04.5 to 07 - 1450°F for extended intervals.

07.5 and newer - During regen and towing 1600°F could easily be reached. The 6.7 engine and turbo was designed to take those temps.
