I didnt notice any performance gains when I did mine but I do believe I help lower my egt's a bit from removing a restriction in the air flow but that might also just be in my head??. as far as leaving it on in the winter time i havent had any issues with mine I also plug my block heater in when it gets around 35* and have had no issues even all the way down to -20* up on cedar mountain I dont know where your at but if you keep the truck plugged in when it gets cool outside you shouldnt have any issues
I did a Wilson thrasher which deletes the grid. I didn't notice a SOP difference or an EGT difference. I did drop a couple of pounds of boost, so I assume it is less restrictive. I just never dynoed before and after.
Yup, you're not really going to notice any performance benefit whether you go the route of a delete block or block omission. I omitted my block because the pusher will mount up fine without it and I was sick of having 100 amp loads on my batteries during cold starts.
I've read some folks say you won't notice one way or the other until you get over 800 HP.
It's one less thing to go wrong, it gives you the option to use a little blast of ether if it's ever absolutely necessary (never spray ether with a live grid heater! NEVER) and it removes that huge multi-cycle drain on your batteries each time you start up.
Unless you live in seriously sub-zero temps, you won't likely notice a GH delete causing you any problems.
I dont regret pulling mine and like I said as long as the truck is plugged in when it gets COLD you wont have any issues and to be honest even not being plugged in. I did this once to prove a point to my dirtymax father in law. it was ZERO* out one morning up at the cabin and neither one of us plugged our trucks in the night before he went out to start his and it would not turn over even letting the glowplug go through its cycle. I walked out and cranked on mine yes it cranked longer that normal but it fired right off I talked my usual BS plugged in my truck let it run for just a minute shut it down and went back inside. (I know not the smartest thing to do with a cold engine but whatever)
pull that sucker out its not that big of deal
When we did my second gen manifold, we had to take the grid heater out because the wires wasnt long enough to go over the new parts. So we just took it out and didnt put anything in its place. No grid heater delete. nothing, notta. Is this bad? Do I need to get the delete? or can I just leave it how it is? Thanks!
Im just kinda undecided whether I should lengthen that wire and slap it back on so my grid heater will work, Or leave it off and get a delete. right now Im not taking advantage of either. Im getting the same flow with no heat....so, i need to do somethin I reckon
I know I'm a Texans, but I had a 45 degree start this morning. Popped off just like if it were 110 degree here. The commonrails start so much easier than the 12 valves.
I think Brennan (______) said around -20 degree he started having trouble with cold starts. At that point, I would plug it in and not worry about it.
I just bought the delete from glacier diesel and i live in mass where its gets pretty cold but i always plug block heater in so see ya later heater grid
DJ nailed it, also when you put your key in just crank it like a gas engine and your good. (Don't pause for more than a couple seconds and you should be code free)
05 is a lil different if I remember there are 2 solenoids.
I just disconnected the switched-side of the solenoid (jumper from battery and jumper to the grid) and left the solenoid in place. Far as the ECM is concerned, it's still turning on the grid heater, just ain't nothing happening and it's none the wiser for it.
yeah, exactly... absolutely no sense in waiting for the grid heater either when it's gone or when it's not being used (warmer weather). Just get in and crank.
I cleared my codes with the Smarty, and they havent came back up. If I go through the list on the Smarty, they pop up, but the engine light stays off.
