Bully Dog on multiple vehicles?

Here is the situation, my brother in law just gave me the bully dog downloader that he had on his 05 3500. He bought an 08 and it wouldn't work, so he gave it to me.

The problem is he didn't set his old truck back to stock, so now it will not work on my truck. I realize they do this to keep multiple people from using the same programer, but does anyone know if they have a update that will reset it, or will my brother in law have to try and track down the truck that he traded in to clear it? I tried calling their tech support but it is closed for the weekend.

I tried searching the forum for this but don't even really know where to begin searching. If anyone has any info on this or could link me to any threads on the topic, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks
Eloso

It says 2.4.2. I just called my brother in law and he told me that he did take the program off before he traded in the other truck. He said he is sure of it because the truck was even runnning different.

Hope I can get this worked out, or a $500 gift is down the drain.

I am going to have to order the cord to run from the Bully Dog to the computer before I can do anything, but if you could send that code I would appreciate it.

I will talk to Bully Dog tech support on Monday and post the resolution to this problem, whatever it is. That way it can be part of this outstanding collection of info.

I have searched a lot of stuff on here, and learned more than I could have ever dreamed. This site rocks, thanks for all those that take the time to share their knowledge and experience.

the passcode won't work... the programmer generates a 4 digit string, and Bully Dog technical has a password generator that matches that string. You have to get the code from Bully Dog.

Bully Dog makes good stuff, but their downloaders aggrivate me to no end... Every one of them that I've purchased used has been VIN locked!!!! If your buddy used it to change his tire size or raise his speed limiter, even if he put the stock engine program back in the ECM, if he didn't change the tire size back or put the speed limiter back, the programmer will be VIN locked to that truck. SUCH a stupid feature...

seriously... EVERY one I've purchased has been VIN locked

bully dog will unlock it for you i bought one from neel and it was locked so i called bully dog i was on hold for 30mins then when i finally talked to someone he had it going in 2mins. Just make sure you set aside 45mins cause they keep you on hold forever. Tell them you bought it from someone used and that you received it locked cause if you tell him ur brother gave it to you they probally want unlock it.

1 of 2 things is going to happen, you will get lucky and talk to a tech that will reset it for free, or your gonna get someone who listens to management and will charge you 100.00 to reset it

Honestly its really not that hard to follow instructions and return all settings to stock

when you plug the unit in what screen does it come to? did your brother in law just set it on the "stock" hp level? Did he adjust for tire size? Also you dont have to order a cable its just standard usb like a printer takes

The one I used to have, it decided to start locking itself to every truck we programmed. I called tech support, they gave me the unlock code, but it would lock to the next truck it was programmed into. Finally just sold it dirt cheap on ebay, hard to believe that a locked programmer would sell at all.

yeah, but come on, it would appear that you're a bully dog tech... I have a friend who's a bully dog tech. You gotta admit that the IQ level of a lot of people who call in isn't the highest! LOL

why set these people up to fail?

when you put a Smarty back to stock, you just press the button to put it back to stock, and you're done.

how hard is that? Why can't Bully Dog write a simple one-button "return to stock" program? It would cut tech line call volume in half! LOL
