when did egr first appear on these trucks?

I'm in the early stages of helping my father in law purchase a new diesel truck. I own a 92 and am a bit of a noob when it comes to the newer stuff. He's interested in the ford and GM stuff also. If anyone can tell me when they started putting Egr on any of the big 3 trucks that would be I am trying to steer him away from an egr equipped truck. Seems like a lot of extra headaches with that stuff.

on the cummins its 07.5 is the definate year the egr was introduced on the 6.7's no 5.9s came with an actual exhaust gas recirculation valve although most 24v heads have somewhat of an egr design within the head itself, something to due with the millisecond that the intake valve stays open on the exhaust stroke. Only way to cure that is a cam

im not sure about ford or chevy but im sure it was earlier then 07

Thanks for the info guys. so to recap all 6.7 cummins (07.5-up), 04-up duramax, and 03-up powerstroke have EGR. So far from the research I have done I`ll be recommending the 5.9 equipped dodge and if he decides on a ford or GM I guess I`ll be disabling and blocking the EGR.

Sure are some nasty pics of black inlets on the duramax sites. I have also read some test results that cummins did on an M11 and I gotta tell ya an extra 40 deg f. of oil temp (from the egr cooler) and more than double the soot in your oil just sounds awful to me. Not to mention all the other harmful deposites from the periodic table that end up turning engine oil into a caustic solution.....
