got an 03 250hp where to go next for hp

so where do i start for adding hp to this engine. i would like at least to bring it inline with an ho or a little better. what were the differences between the two engines? just injectors or? i was going to install new injector tips so i might as well upgrade but i don't know where to start. thanks.

You might want to fill in your signature so people can see what you already have. If your truck is rated at 250hp, it is the standard output, like mine. You can add a Smarty and it should bump the power up to that of the HO engines before going up in SW numbers (someone correct me if I am wrong). Also, a cold air intake and exhaust is always a good modification. If you have an auto, you may want to be careful with how much hp you add to it because the autos in these trucks suck. I'm sure others will chime in, but I guess that gives you an idea. I think only adding injectors won't do too much, but I don't have a ton of experience with that yet so I could be wrong.

I'm pretty sure the differences in the engines include a different tune to the computers, possibly different injectors, and when you get up in years (late '04 into '05) I think the piston bowl changes. The later years also have slightly different heads. Again, someone should correct me if I am wrong so I don't feed incorrect information.

There's plenty to do but pretty much any fueling box or downloader will put you over what a stock HO puts out. The problem is that it's all so addicting and eventually you will be driving around in a truck laying down 600rwhp as your daily driver.

Good luck and welcome to Diesel Trucks Anonymous. Your life is about to change.......

Correct.

The 03-04 trucks really react well to the Smarty. That will give you a nice increase in power. If you want to do a cheap turbo mod, install a turbo off an 04.5+. You'll have to do some little tweaks to the turbo to make the wastegate work on your truck, but it is simple. The 03-04 truck react well to a little pressure increase also. After that, do some trans mods to hold the power and then you will have a nice truck.
