Hello everyone, thanks for your input. I was driving the first truck in my sig the other day and when it was idling i noticed it has a slight miss in it. Im guessing one of the injectors is going bad? it drives fine and runs fine, but there is a slight miss and when it sits for a long period of time ( a week or more) it has a little blueish smoke when you first start it. So I'm guessing injector(s) is bad? Can i drive it for a while or is it not recommended? it has 84k on it right now. If the injectors are going out i wanted to replace them with something else but have no idea what would be good to get for a farm truck that does some trailering but mostly street driving. I want to get descent milage but figured why put stock parts back on. Also, where do you get injectors, do you get new or rebuilds? what other mods are suggested, I'm going to do a clutch soon too. Thanks for looking
dump 1qt of cheap non synthetic dexron ATF in the tank when you fill it up. do this for a few tanks and see if it clears up your issue. its also a good ideal to add some ashless 2 stroke oil in your tank to help keep things lubricated. blue smoke is from oil, so you might have some oil seeping into your cylinders or your turbo. if you buy injectors, do not buy remanned injectors. go with new bosch injectors. i got my injectors from DAP and they seem to have good prices. as far as other mods, get better fuel filtration. aside from that and the clutch you are doing, your other mods really depend on what your goal is for the truck. Thanks, I just dint want to wreck something by running it with a bad injector. I'm sure some ppl don't even hear it. and as far as the oil, one bottle of each per tank?
yes. 1qt of the ATF and one 16oz bottle of the 2 stroke oil. do this for 2-3 tanks and see if it clears it up. i will put 1qt of ATF in my tank every now and then, some guys will put some ATF in their tank every fill up, just not a whole quart of it. i will add a 16oz bottle of 2 stroke oil every few fill ups, some guys will add lesser amounts every fill up. there is also is tons of info about this on these forums if you search.
Try a half quart of the ATF. Mine started randomly idling high and the rpms would not want to come down with no throttle input, just letting out on the clutch. Half a quart of ATF (type F I believe) IMHO might go a long way. I'm just not in the camp that thinks more is better. 1/2 qt worked for me. I drove around with a decent load in the bed (2000lbs of gravel) for maybe an hour and worked the pickup pretty good. Runs like a top.
And to clarify I was absolutely concerned/borderline freaked when my injectors seemed to hang like that. Never done anything like that in 165,000 miles. I would just advise starting at the lower end of the spectrum and work your way up if necessary. No need to go 'all in' when a raise is all thats needed. I have definitely heard a few horror stories involving atf and commonrail diesels. So I chose to try it, but start small.
lots of guys have dumped a full quart per tank including my self.
