Smarty Jr. Question.
Please forgive yet another Smarty related post. I did query this topic prior to see if i could find any previous threads that would answer all my questions but there are still a few remaining, so here goes. Is the smarty Jr. safe to run with no guages? i know they are recommnded but are they mandatory? I don't tow and don't race, i generally baby my rig. Which setting yields the best mpg? Can you run the jr. with no other mods? Assuming that i only added a cai and exhaust plus the jr. would i need to modify the tranny at all (6spd)? Thanks ahead of time for the help.

I run the performance program all the time with the timing advanced all the way. When I keep my foot out of it, I get 18mpg city in the summer and have gotten 21.2mpg (handcalculated) going 60-65mph before. The economey program is no better for mileage than the performance as far as I've seen. I did use the tow program once when hauling about 10,000lbs worth or 1-ton chevy on a car-hauler and got 15.15mpg highway going 70mph.

I don't think you're guaranteed any mileage gains. Your right foot determines mileage. I would say that when driving conservatively, the smarty has been good for about 1 mpg for me. Maybe 2 on the highway.

I run her on the performance setting (3) also, with timing advanced... no gauges here, all i have is a CAI and a straight pipe, with the G56 (6-speed manual) and a stock clutch I can get her to slip, but normal driving you should be fine... good luck, oh I also got about a 2 mpg gain, but noticed no difference in milage between Economy (1) setting and Performance (3) just power and smoke... holler with any questions

I just sold my Jr about a month ago. On a 350 mile trip I averaged 21.9 mpg hand calculated. This was from Camarillo, Ca to Las Vegas, NV. There were some passes through the mountains near the border so that may have sucked up some fuel. I averaged around 75 mph. I don't think you would need gauges, but I would be careful with the transmission as mine started to slip after 4000 miles.I had an automatic. I only had 49,000 when I put it on. I needed a new tranny by 65000. Mind you I did have it on the 100hp setting the whole time. I didn't race or anything, but I did take it to the dunes and stuff. I did think it was a great investment if you are looking for a nice mild programmer though. Highly recommended.

thanks to all for the responses, i'm getting real excited as the christmas season approaches (guess what's on the top of my list....). i'm assuming my 6spd is the nv5600. will the stock clutch hold up on the 100hp setting assuming again that i don't beat on it. or will it be a case of premature wear. ultimatly a clutch upgrade will solve this problem but i'd rather not have to do this right away. would it be safe to assume that the 6spd handles the extra power better than the automatics?

Your stock clutch should hold up fine, I run mine on the 100hp tune and have no clutch slippage so far. You are assuming write, your transmission will be the nv5600.
