I did the same thing with mine. I used PVC sewer pipe and a 90 degree street elbow, 45 degree silicon, and an Amsoil 4510 filter........
45 degree silicon....what is this exactly?? I have worked in the water/sewer biz for 10 years...never heard that before. Are you meaning a 45* rubber boot maybe?? Thanks

06 mega nice intake. Gonna make one. Off topic but how do you like your farm boy 5" exhaust? Is it the one with the muffler and do you have any sound clips?
No Muffler straight 5" turboback....I have the mega cab so the noise dosent bother me all that bad:thumbsup........
I dont have a sound clip oh it but I have been trying make clips here lately but it takes to long with my internet so I will just wait till I get a cable internet provider

a couple of quick questions:
first, how are you guys securing these setups? fabbing mounts, or letting the weight of the filter rest on the connection all the way down on the turbo? I havent seen that addressed...
second: is there a filter availible with an opening that will fit over say a 4" ID street fitting, or larger, so that you dont have to reduce to the 4" OD pipe (wich is probbably slightly larger than 3.5"ID).. it seems like the most restrictive part of the whole setup...

I made a shield that mine sits on but it took a lot of time to make it and the the edge of filter rests on it

I dont think thats as big a problem for air flow as you would think....Besides this intake is mainly for bolt-on/programmer guys....If you are making serious power you will probably be running something different anyways......Also you are only going to have 100$ in it if that:thumbsup

On my '02, I ran a pair of 4560 air filters with a PVC "Y" pipe for quite a while. It looked pretty funny but sure was affordable. Thankfully they now make the 4510, which is a lot bigger.
hey chuck how did you run this set up i would really like some pics if you have any. or maby a write up if at all possible i think it would look really sweet to have dual air filters underneath a functional cowl induction hood thanks.

Wow old thread!
Yeah, I just got a 4" SCH 40 PVC "Y" pipe from a plumbing shop, trimmed it down with my band saw, painted it black with epoxy spray paint, and ran two EAAU4560 filters. It worked and fit, but was too bulky in some ways. It was a tight fit. The EAAU4510 is the better way to go. I did the dual 4560 thing before they made the big 4510. I'll have to dig and see if I still have those pics.

so if I use a 4090 I will have to get the 4"OD reducer? does the 4510 fit over a 4"ID street fitting? if so how is the fit? I dont like the idea of downsizing...

Finally a good use for PVC pipe. If you can help it don't ever install that stuff in your house. IMO it should be banned from the construction sites.
I had 2 sewer snakes break out of the walls because that stuff cracks and breaks. I was on the 3rd floor and the snake broke out of a 90 on the first floor. Scared the hell out of that poor little old lady.

Would this be something worth doing to a stock 06 truck? Also I live in Fairbanks,Alaska so would that be a issue with using the PVC in cold weather. Our temps drop to -40 to -50 during the winter. Thanks

I would think that any modifications you do to the stock intake would be an improvement. As far as PVC and -50 Alaska weather....it should work, it does get brittle when it's cold but unless you have something smacking around your engine compartment you should be fine. ABS would be the way to go but I would not trust it that close to the exhaust manifold, it could get soft and fold in on itself.
