Amsoil vs K&N

Well, I was looking to keep from starting a new thread...but I guess I will.

I once said that I didn't see why everyone was so negative toward K&N. Now I do. I took the filter off and wiped down the inside of the intake tube...and what I found what quite disturbing. The paper towel went in white...and came out brown and black. The inside of the K&N looked the same way. I know it was tight enough, so there wasn't any leak issues.
I ordered the Amsoil 4090 and got it the other day. First off, I really like the blue color and the chrome tip. I drove it around last night after the install and I noticed a little more pep to the truck..and the turbo makes a lot more noise than the K&N ever did. I can't wait to see what it does long term and how good a job it does with filtering the air. Guess I am really glad I checked it out before I make the move to put a new turbo on the truck. Maybe one of these weekends I will look at the compressor wheel to see if there is any wear from the particulate that made it past the K&N.

Anyway, I just wanted to post a quick one to let everyone know that I am no longer for the K&N. It's also kind of nice to not have to mess with the oil and cleaning solution too.

I felt the same way about Airraid dropin until I checked the filter and found something disturbing.
The filter has been replaced with AMSOIL 189 dropin filter.

I have owned K&N filters for a long time. Just aim one at the light and you can see the pin holes in them.{disturbing}

Yep, I've been saying this for about a year now. It is nice to see that others are seeing the same proof that I have seen. :thumbsup

The way I figure it, y all spend your moiney for something, it should last longer than 10,000 Miles.
That is what I had on the pic of the filter before it went to the round can.

My wife got rid of her K&N on her modded WRX, we are running the Amsoil filters in everything! Can't wait for the 2 for the bikes!

There is no doubt that the oil type filters have seen there rise to fame come and go. The nanofiber dryflow filters are the wave of the future. More and more people are realizing this and i think we will see more intake manufactures switching to them in the future
