Diff cover?

Is it worth the $275 for a rear diff cover. Think it was called a magtech, holds more oil and has fins to help cool. I don't see one for the front diff.

Is there any covers that are better that might be cheaper? What gear oil is best to use in diff? Doing a service on my truck at friends shop next Saturday and want to get everything I need.

I think they are worth it! I pulled my fifthwheel only once without the mag-hytec installed. For whatever reason, paranoia I'm guessing! I was checking everything out after pulling my trailer. I had run my truck pretty dang hard and I put my hand on that rear differential and HS was it HOT! It would be neat to see the actual difference in temps between a stock cover and the hytec, but really you can't go wrong by getting one. Even if the fins didn't do squat (which I happen to think they do) just having the extra fluid capacity would make it worth while.

I'm also running the amsoil severe gear in the diffs. I think it was the 75W-110 or 140 this last time.

you can't go wrong with a mag hytec cover ...

no more silicone

larger capacity

aircraft grade aluminum

fined for better cooling

dipstick

drain plug

spot to hook up temp sender if you want to know the temp

hows that for starters

Just be aware that the Mag-Hytec front cover will cause clearance issues with many steering stabilizers.

But, not the stock set up.

There are less expensive brands that offer cooling fins and/or larger capacity. PML and Oasis come to mind. I'm sure there are others as well.

I like the PML covers, their not as big HI-TECH or hold as much oil, they hold about 3/4 of a quart more, thats all I need. They are a lot cheaper, about $199.00 and they look great.

Do you need to add a limted slip additive to the AMSoil severe gear oil?

The differentials in our trucks are not a clutch type limited slip, so it is not required.
