It would work for sure; increasing surface area increases cooling area. The question would be how much will it help?

I would say go for it and tell us how it turns out.

i'll probably try it once i get caught up with my other work. I would probably build it entirely out of aluminum tubing. Longer runs of 3'' alum tube would increase volume pretty quickly. I think by the time i dropped from the engine compartment down to the bumper, crossed to the other side and did a 180 to come back across, and then back up to the intercooler, i may have a run of 12-15 linear feet depending on how i do it. If my results are positive i may build an intercooler for the pipes return run. It should be fun to try. I dont really want to spend 1500 on an intercooler.

What is a "big drop" in degrees?

If i try it i'll probably run my lenth of piping before entering the intercooler, snake it underneath, 180 it back around and up to the intercooler. I have even thought about trying to build a small intercooler to fit that area. Maybe hide it behind the bumper and try to direct some air to it. I've been a fabricator for a pretty long time so building wont be an issue. Just thought it might be an interesting thing to try to increase my intercooler volume. It wont cost to much for materials.. So you guys think this could work or have i gone mad??
if your going to go thru all that trouble..might i suggest an air-to-liquid intercooler. i run one on my car, and i LOVE it. plus the pressure drop is almost ZERO. just a thought, and guarenteed cooler temps. an air to liquid intercooler can exceed 100% efficiency(meaning your intake manifold temps can be below ambient temp)

hey 07white59, how much do you wanna bet your way over 1200deg.the edge is notorious for wrong digital read outs.my truck STOCK hit 1400. so theres no way. get another gauge. and if you send in your edge unit, edge can fix it, they will even tell you the same thing.

Ok then explain how on my Attidute when I run Edge programming I can't get to 1200* but when I turn the Edge to 0 and load the Bully Dog I can see 1350* no problem? I could go higher but let off cause I have no reason to keep going.......... My Edge runs much cooler than my DBTD.

I agree with this.

I hope you run Smarty on nontiming levels?

Actually he is right. You are actually DECREASING the pressure to the intake manifold when you go with an aftermarket intake. The narrow chanel in the stock elbow INCREASES THE VELOCITY of the air that is going into the manifold.

so your telling me that a truck with the edge j/a/stacked runs cooler then a stock one.ill agree that it may run cooler then BTTD, but thats not saying much.im not picking on edge, that you deffend at all costs, its just that he thinks hes at 1200 deg at wide open throttle, and thats just not a fact at all, regardless of what the digital read out says.

Mulisha between me and a few other guys in this thread you have three people telling you that with the Edge JA they are not getting over 1200*. This is a good sample considering the small amount of posts in the thread. Why is it not possible that an Edge JA can run cooler than stock? Everyone seems to be OK with the Almighty Smarty and the JR running cooler than stock so why not Edge? Ido not defend the Edge JA at all costs but I will when it is appropriate.

lol, what ever works for ya man. its all good.its just not a fact at all. 3rd gens run hotter then most, thats a fact.adding the juice/att doesnt lower your egt's, and thats a fact....remember i had all that also.with my ddp 90's and the super b my egt's were at 1550 going across the traps.ill bet you anything if i took that guys truck to the track, i could get it to go over 1200deg...i also liked the edge juice for a while in the beginning, and still to this day tell people looking for some power and mileage to get the edge.remember its all good,
