Your 05 should have a 4" exhuast already. Put in an Aero 4040xl muffler and you'll be set.

agreed, the 550 horse and above is pretty much true, ive asked many guys at shops and they basicly said 5inch is just braggin rights, i am redoing mine with 4.5, but, thats cuz i got 40ft for free and mine doesnt look so good with a 6ft chunk of 4" SP spliced in where the stock muff. and cat was. my 4inch is pretty loud as it is when i get on it, the 4.5 is slightly thicker by 1/8th inch as its electrical EMT. sometimes the cheapest stuff is just as good as the expensive stuff.

would a FBD 5" with flow through muffler be louder when getting on the throttle then a stock 4" straight?

Had a 4" free flow and upgraded to a 5" turboback with muffler and its relatively easy on the ears. Egts are obviously lower, you can her the turbo alittle more too. I didn't notice too much of a loss on my low end, but its noticeable that I have... I like the sound, deeper and smoother than my 4". Also you hear less turbo chatter..

I definitely don't want straight pipe.

Just my opinion, but the straight piped 3rd gens sound like ricers. I know someone that has straight pipe on his 04.5 and it sounds like .

The only exception I've heard is with the 2nd gen exhaust manifold. I would like to do that mine.

Loved my 01 with straight pipe but I hate the 3rd gen sound.

Well I'd use a Donaldson or Neslon muffler myself but he has a good point.

What are you trying to gain with a 5" system, are you doing it just cuz it looks or sounds cool?

All you need (from a performance standpoint) is a free flowing muffler unless you're making over 600hp, put the money you save towards something else.

If you are comcerned about drone in the cab do not even think about 5", I have a 05 quad cab short bed and it was loud as S@#t. I tried everything to get my wife to ride in it, Silverline 5", Magnaflow muffler, Aeroturbine, all claming they would help with the drone but nothing did. I ended up trading everything I had to go back to a stock system minus the cat. The 5" did sound like a freight train which was cool but hook up to a trailer and tow and try to have a conversation, good luck!
